thanks.

unsure whether we could accurately test whether the power valve is ruined from backfires

if I assume it IS ruined can you recommend a way I can continue tuning the car?

If it is ruined, I assume the fuel will be running into the carbs above the throttle plates and adding to the fuel I'm attempting to control via the idle mixture screws?

problem is that I Can't see myself getting a power valve here for a coupla weeks (Christmas, no local suppliers etc)

if shut all 4 corner idle screws, and engine still running,

ok, not many NGK fans.
I run mine at .060, and idles fine.
Did a search on the net, and the first 3
top 10 spark plug lists I found, all had NGK.
and none had Champion.

(I know, you can find anything you want on the net)

Ha, found the below on a Mopar chat site:

These comments are interesting....Here in Australia...Champion plugs have the reputation of being the worst/cheap and nasty crap plug on the market....

I use NGK plugs in My 440...works for Me..

Bosch has been good too, I ran Accells in my Hemis back when it would munch Champions in a weekend. However if they work for others that is great.

ha - funny that the comment is from Australia. like me...

we can't even get it idling at all. need to keep the throttle open to stop it stalling.

because of that we can't attempt to check if the idle will shut off.

grrrr  :Thud:

You can check the power valve by applying a light vacuum to it and see if the plunger moves. Check to make sure the gasket is installed properly to seal it against the metering block. It is easy to get it slightly misaligned when installing.

or put in mouth and suck or blow, and listen for a leak. But it does not taste good.

hey hey !
Merry Christmas !
Thanks for the updates. I decided to avoid the issue a few days, as I was getting so pissed off about it.
Will confirm with vacuum and re-seat the valve later today
with some coffee nearby to wash out my mouth...
