I am detailing the components of my engine and someone painted the vacuum advance portion of the distributor black. It drives me batty now bad it looks. Can that piece be easily removed and painted? Or would taking it off ruin the distributor?

I can paint it attached to the disto but I rather do a higher quality job.

Easily removed , 2 screws & it connects onto a pin on the advance plate

Alright it's on Chryco if I start a new topic about a ruined distributor!  :haha:

Thanks again! I thought it would be fairly easy just wanted to make sure.

Start a thread on a destroyed dist & will will walk you through fixing it again , no problem !!

:iagree:  It comes off fairly easily, you will have to pry the advance plate up slightly to remove the arm once the mounting screws are out. My vacuum advance is not painted at all... just a natural finish...
