Hello. Got an original 71 340 Cuda I've had for about 35 years. Upgrading the exhaust and would like to go to headers. Any ideas on the best to use that won't hang down real low and I could install without removing a portion of the front suspension? Cost not an issue.

Thanks in advance.

I had TTI shorty headers with ceramic coating, dual pipes and mufflers installed on my 71 318 Barracuda about 2 years ago. Really like them and no issues with being too low. Had O2 bungs welded on for my EFI.

I've just installed TTi 1-5/8--1-3/4 step headers.. very good fitting and overall quality... easy to change the starter... excellent ground clearance... but... as you can find in my recent post... IF you have automatic transmission cooling lines, you may have to re-route them... and TTI barely suggests that.

I went with Dougs. They were a little cheaper and they fit fine. The Trans line are a little close to the headers. I can't remember if you can get the starter out, but it would be tight if you could. Probably depends on the size. The other Issue I had with my '70 Challenger was the Header interfers with the lockout linkage. TTI makes an adapter that goes up and over. This isn't absolutely needed. No need to remove any frontend linkages.

One thing to consider is what are you bolting it up to. I used a set of hooker or headman headers and it bolted right up to my tti exhaust. But the Doug's Headers were just a tad bit shorter and I had to add an extension. Not a big deal but just keep in mind if you have existing exhaust it might not fit perfect.

Dougs Headers seem to be highly recommended and fit better than most. They seem to be on par with TTI.
