Seam sealer under exhaust hangar plate?

Should there be some sealer under this plate to seal around the bolt holes in the floor pan?   I don't remember seeing sealer when I took things apart, but I think it would be appropriate to keep exhaust out of the trunk area.   I'm mostly checking to see if there's a reason not to do it (like heat from the exhaust will mess up the sealer).

You can use a black dum dum to seal the holes if you like. I don't believe the factory used anything. :alan2cents:

I don't think they put any under the plate, even thought it needed it but they definitely smeared some of the white seam sealer on top as an afterthought. They rusted at an early age. I've sold a couple of those that I pulled out long ago for good money because they always rust up.

Earlier years got seam sealer applied over the top.  I don't think the later years did.

OK - I think that matches up with what I saw in the trunk on my '70 immediately after I bought it.   I'm fairly certain what's pictured below was the original metal (or what was left of it) on the car.  The surrounding area was in pretty bad shape and had to be cut out.   This area and its twin on the passenger side seem to be the low point / rust trap on the trunk floor pan, as the area around the other hangar was corroded a bit too.
