How do I hide the smilies?

The smile selection table takes up a ton of space.  When I'm drafting a post/reply, it seems to limit how much of my text I can see.  When I attempt to use the little grab tool, in the lower right corner to expand the text area, things go from bad to worse.

Can the smile table be hidden?  If so, how?  I use a smiley maybe 1 in 20 posts,  so to me, I'd rather they be hidden until I need them.

Do others have this problem?  If not, maybe my version of Chrome is to blame?
I'm a semi-retired software engineer.  I've seen this kind of issue more times than I can count.  I'm trying to figure out a work-around to give me more space to write.

Observe the pre-click and post-click view.  Once I click that corner, even the PREVIEW and POST buttons go bye-bye.

Thank you.  I don't see the option "Use quick reply on topic display:" on the Look and Layout portion of my profile, but I already see the Quick Reply form at the bottom of every topic.  Sadly, it depicts the smiley table.

Unless the function is built in to the forum software, we may need a coder to resolve.  I got an idea, or two.  But it's not that important.  I have a way to hide the table, manually, if I want the space.

The real solution to this would be adding the extra smileys to the "more" button.

@TwitchisMental  that sounds like a good idea.

My thoughts, too.  If we can add buttons to the tool bar, a toggle to show/hide the smiley region would do it, without the need to reload the page.

The SMF (open source forum software) site suggests there may be an admin setting to change the smiley display.

@pschlosser  I think you found a solution!  :veryexcited:  There was a spot in the settings that allows the smiley to be set to "no smileys".  I've turned that on so you should be able to go to your profile and the the "Look and Layout" to see the option to have no smileys.  Let me know if it works?  :fingerscrossed:   And make sure to click the "change profile at the bottom of the page to save your changes.

Hooray, that worked!

Several things change:
1. the smiley table is now hidden
2. the text area into which we write messages is now larger
3. the lower right corner can now be grabbed to resize the text area

It looks as if I NEVER see the smiley table, now.  Which I guess isn't the end of the world.  I use them maybe 1 post in 10.  I can live without them, if it makes posting easier overall.

If we ever get the chance to add more tool buttons to the toolbar, we can use Javascript to toggle the table to show and hide it.

Thank you for taking the time to help me figure  this out.

It looks like hiding the smileys table on the reply form, also hides the smileys everywhere.  Now, no post has smileys displayed.  I may have to turn them back on, if I want to see them in other posts.  I may have to just live with the big  table of smileys when I'm making a post.
