I am on the "other" boards, even though I am not a fan of Joey and his censorship.  His sites bring in an array of users with lots of information and opinions with lots of topics popping up.
One of the things that pisses me off about this site is that when I post in a thread, no matter what that thread is, I have to hit the "notify" bars down on the bottom or I do not get an alert that a post was made on a thread that I posted in.  If I don't click that bar I don't know someone posted in the thread.
Without that notification that there was a post in a thread of my interest then I don't always see that the thread had more posts.  This, alone, is enough that when people come here and there is no new alerts they just click away to another website.   That notification/alert is what keeps my attention on the board.  Without that it's just looking at unread posts and hoping a subject comes up that is interesting.
The other thing, the like buttons.     On the "other" boards, when you like something or post any of the like buttons, and one of his sites has a dislike button also, then that thread also comes up in my alerts.  This is a great resource for seeing threads that I have a lot of interest in but I don't have enough knowledge or a productive comment to make, yet.  With the like, agree, thanks or dislike buttons I then get an alert that the thread that I liked something in has a new post.  This keeps me interested in the thread.

On this site, since I have to click the notify me buttons it does not dangle the hook that keeps me coming back to look and comment (or bite).
On these sites, the amount of comments is what keeps the advertisers offering items here is it not?  When the click count goes down the site becomes a CC.com site.

I have mentioned this before but as I see way more topics created in a day on the "other" sites I have to bring up this subject again.  @Cuda Cody  I know you have done a lot for the site and especially with the recent revamping and it is very appreciated.   Not trying to nit pick your site as I am really trying to help you get more people clicking and posting and therefore making you more money.

Anyone have an opinion on this?

When I go on this site Recent Forum Topics pops up. Any topic with a new post that I have not read will have a red NEW button beside the topic title. I tap the button and it takes me to the oldest unread post in that topic. So when I go on this board I just scan the list and tap any NEW buttons that I'm interested in. Also, once I get down the list to a topic that doesn't have a NEW button I know I've been that far before. No need to go further.

I too do that process while here.
What I am saying that for the majority of forum users, this forum does not keep up with the other forums.
That is the reason why we don't get as many new topics and as much discussion here as on the "other" boards on the daily.

Want this site to flourish and get bigger?    Gotta make it more user friendly.

The fakebook ebodies has more people than here and it sucks in a lot of ways.
However, fakebook updates you as soon as you get on it.  it says, hey!  here is a new post that you have not seen.  It doesn't wait for you to scroll around and "find" a new post.   It tells you it's here.

Bullitt-

@cuda hunter I've just checked the box to "Turn notification on when you post or reply to a topic" under Profile- Look and Layout- Posting. If someone responds to this thread, or any other that I've posted in I expect to receive some sort of notification.  I will advise if this works.  :)

Interesting thought and do agree auto notification would be preferred for the site.
That stated, I am one that purposely turns off all notifications.

I know what Josh is talking about and agree. While the 'Alert' indication at the top is an improvement, what he is talking about would be nice.

I have to wonder if the reason for less traffic here is that we also have a Facebook page. I'm sure there's lots of members there that aren't members here. We've split the group in two. If there was no fb page there would be more members and posts here.
