Back to my old job

Anyone go back to a former employer? I just started back at a place I was for 11 years, been away for 3. Even though I am still friends with the owner Mark, he`s a car/bike guy and I see him at car shows, I never thought about going back but the timing was right I guess. My wife who still works there ( how we met) was talking to Mark about me job hunting and mentioned they were going to start a second shift and he would love for me to run it. I went down and talked to them and got an offer I couldn`t refuse to go back. Even though I`v e worked second plenty of times before I`m still getting used to the 4pm-2am 4 day week schedule but otherwise so far so good.

Well I guess the offer waa good enough for you to go back. Hopefully it's what you want. Those hours are hard to get use to . I use to work shift. 7am-7pm with a hour travel. 2 day shifts then 2 nights followed by 4 days off. I hated it

Glad to hear it's working out.   I've worked with the same people for a long time.  It's nice to work with people you trust and know well.

The owners Mark and Bill are good guys, it`s a small company now up to 60 employees and shop is packed with machines, parts and people. I was looking anyway as the company I was working for wanted me to step up and take on more responsibitly, which I did and then promised to "take care of me" but fell way short at raise time. Out of the 3 inspectors I was the only one willing to step up but even with my raise was the lowest paid. After talking to Mark and Bill I figured out what it would take to get me back second shift and they offered above that and given my debt situation as of late there was no way I could turn it down or make the same somewhere else. One of the fringe benefits is I once again have access to a full sheet metal fab and machine shop for all my car projects!

I worked a few years at a machine shop doing the 4pm to 2am thing . It is hard to get used to. By the end of the week I was a zombie... If it was steady that would be better, I did it two weeks on , 2 weeks 7am-4pm . I did enjoy the longer weekends but usually we had to come in for half a shift on Friday. That really sucked! OT pay but it still sucked!

Boy! Did someone mention working nights? How about working week-ends too. I worked for the Federal government for 41 years, 1974 to 2015 my work schedule was at first Monday through Friday, swing shift (3:30-12:00) not too bad, great benefits, retirement, health plan (which I still benefit from). Then without provocation, given a notice of a change obviously for thier benefit not mine. My new work days Wed-Sun (7:30-4:00), that's working reg. week-ends. 1985 to 2015. Night time differential was wonderful, week-end pay just as great, time with the family sucked, especially while they were growing up. Could I do anything! Nope!! We bid on our jobs by seniority, to many senior people ahead of me, bidding on what great jobs there were. The union couldn't help (union dues for 40 years). Everyone else I worked with faced the same. We had 550 workers in my facility, nationwide 800,000 employees. Hey, great benefits health care and retirement.    Thanks,   Al

The reasons for being there or leaving shift with time & if they are good people to work with I will work for them again

No changing/rotating shifts for me, mine is straight 4pm-2am Monday thru Thursday. Being the supervisor I get paid salary and going in a bit early so working 42-45 hrs a week but I got a 60% pay raise over my last job so it will be well worth it.

Small company so nowhere to go promotion wise and I was bored just doing inspection after 11 years. There were also some issues with the quality manager disrespecting myself and other employees, he has since stepped down, not sure why but I let it be known what he was doing to the owners when I left. When I started back we shook hands and he welcomed me back so I think it is behind us and we are both adult enough to let it be. Being the one and only boss on nights is a big step up and obviously the owner thinks highly enough of me to have the responsibility of the position.

Can't say I've ever done that, especially considering that my previous 2 employers are nearing bankruptcy.  Both times I jumped ship shortly before being let go anyways!

The utility industry is a tricky one.
