Beach House

It's crazy how similar building a beach house is to building a car.  It always goes over budget, things never go exactly as planned and if you want it done right you just end up having to do it yourself.    When we bought the beach lot in 2020 I did not plan on building the house.  I had a contractor selected to do it, but it was clear within a few weeks of breaking ground that I was going to have to take over if I wanted it done right.  My guys stepped up and we spent the last couple years working long hours to get it done.  Most days were up at 4:30am to drive a couple hours to the job site and then work for 12 hours straight.  2 hour drive would get us back around 8 to 9 pm so we could spent a few minutes with our families and then sleep for 4 to 5 hours and do it again the next day.... day after day for years while we all held down our normal jobs.  We finally finished it last summer and we're now officially renting it out.  Here's the beach house we built...

No room for cranes or fork lifts, everything had to be done by hand.

With the help of friends, family and a great team of guys we were able to build a nice little beach house that everyone will hopefully get to enjoy for a long time.

Looks great! There's sure no easy button doing something right. I try to hire guys sometimes but if they show up late or cancel I fire them immediately and just do it myself. Gets tiring but it seems to be the only way to ensure appropriate results.

Very Cool. I like all the rebar you put in the concrete foundation. I always wondered about what was required to build a house upon a sandy beach.

Yes, a lot of rebar in the Grade Beam.  That grade beam sits on dozens and dozens of helical piles.  The helical piles ago down about 25' to bedrock and add support to the foundation.  We were drilling those things in what feels like day and night for days. Then they have a cap on them that sits inside the grade beam (which is what most people think is a footing) and they carry an amazing about of weight of the house.

Did you hand pour your shower base? 

Looks good.

  Shower pans are custom and some with an envelope cut.  Heated floors, heated bench, heated seats and even heated the wall seat backs.  Bluetooth speakers in the showers that are separate from the full house surround sound.  And even a commercial steam shower with an Airmada drying system so you don't have to wipe the glass or tile clean.

Tile so flat you can slide a hockey puck across it.
