I know some of you guys ride so I'm hoping you can help me understand why most bikers are so obnoxiously inconsiderate. In this small city (35,000) there are a lot of restaurants, it a world renowned theatre city. In the summer all the restaurants have patios, many of them on the sidewalks. Motorcycles go by and race from light to light in first gear, or when they start their bike as they're leaving they have to rev the hell out of it and then pull away with the throttle wound out. It echoes between the buildings on each side of the street. It's LOUD and extremely inconsiderate to the restaurant patrons that are just trying to enjoy a quiet meal. It's not 10% of bikers doing this, it's 90%!
My muscle cars are damn loud also and I understand the thrill of hearing the engine wind out but I will never, and have never, done it in close proximity to people that are trying to enjoy a relaxing meal or a drink.

I ride, but I hate that behavior. Lots of idiots do ride though.

I used to ride a Harley Dynaglide. Baffles knocked out, loud as hell. I'm sorry to say, I'd have been one of them when I was way younger. It's definitely inconsiderate. I recently became a supporter of local police and have on two occasions did ride alongs with them. They show no mercy on cars with loud exhaust, yet won't bother the loud bikes. I never understood it.

As someone that's been riding every year since I was 6 in 1960 on a homemade minibike, its the people.  Bikes have little to do with it. The same ones probably own a little 4cyl car with no muffler and sit at stop lights showing off their rev limiter.

"loud pipes save lives" No actually being aware of hazards, knowing how to brake and corner in an emergency situation saves lives. These loud pipe idiots don't have much going on upstairs. I love how my stock and quiet 45 year old bikes can run circles around their $50k and up junk.

It's not just kids on rice rockets it's also Harley riders with straight pipes. My Barracuda is also loud but not obnoxiously so and I would not intentionally rev it in a place that I knew would bother people.

I had a friend who was a cop and I asked him years ago why guys with Harley's get away with riding with straight pipes.  He said lots of cops ride Harleys.  I guess they break noise laws riding so don't want to bust others for doing something they do?
I live near an intersection of 2 busy 4 lane roads.  Over the years certain noises have grated on my nerves from traffic.  I don't seem to hear as many noisy Harley's anymore.  Now it's noisy crotch rockets.
The latest obnoxious noise trend that irritates me is backfiring exhaust.  Hearing a car go by making sounds that sound like gunshots and rattle the windows is terrible.  I don't get it either, what is the appeal?  Makes it sound like your car is broken.  Why not get an accessory that sounds like a wheel bearing going bad while you're at it?
Mustang exhausts bug me too, often sounds like double fart cans.

I've been riding motorcycles almost as long as I've been driving. That "loud motorcycles are safer because people can hear them coming" line is total BS. They do it because they think it's cool. I never liked my bikes loud. I used to wear a scull cap for a helmet and that's probably why I have hearing loss and constant ringing in my ears now. At the time I thought it was cool. I'm 71 and my idea of cool is different now. I even changed the mufflers on my Barracuda so its a little quieter. I like things quiet and comfortable now.

Been on 2 wheels since i was 6, seriously..
Have had all sorts of bikes.
Grew up around clubs, and learned right.
The revving at stops and retarded behaviour is a total lack of class and a desperate need for attention.
Pay em no mind, cause they aint got one anyways.
Maybe toss em a dildo?
Theyd probably fall over reachin...
