Obviously not in that the first driver had a smart car and did a dumb thing but this driver had a dumb car and did a dumb thing so not related  :haha:
Logic he trusted in a car that could at least drive itself where she had no such option so way dumber  :bricks: :Thud:

Agreed, totally unrelated.  He lived, and had probably done this many times before.

But. this one is related....

https://www.theverge.com/2016/6/30/12072408/tesla-autopilot-car-crash-death-autonomous-model-s
5 year old vehicle over 4 years ago.  Teslas get upgraded software on a regular basis automatically as improvements are made.  A 2015 has the latest software same as a 2020.

We don't know if the driver could have avoided this accident, tractor trailer driver was found at fault, it is possible that any driver in any vehicle would have had the same crash.

From Telsa's website second quarter 2020:

4.53 million miles driven per accident in which drivers had Autopilot engaged.
2.27 million miles driven per accident in which driving without Autopilot but with active safety features
1.56 million miles driven per accident in which driving without Autopilot and without active safety features

For all vehicles
0.48 million miles driven per accident from NHTSA

Not a great idea yet to completely rely on autopilot but Tesla drivers with autopilot are almost 10 times less likely to get in an accident than the general public.  Tesla drivers do way worse when they don't use the active safety features.

Here is the link to Tesla's ongoing safety tracking.

https://www.tesla.com/vehiclesafetyreport

From 2012 – 2019, there has been approximately one Tesla vehicle fire for every 175 million miles traveled. By comparison, data from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and U.S. Department of Transportation shows that in the United States there is a vehicle fire for every 19 million miles traveled.

In order to provide an apt comparison to NFPA data, Tesla's data set includes instances of vehicle fires caused by structure fires, arson, and other things unrelated to the vehicle, which account for some of the Tesla vehicle fires over this time period.
