I usually try to swing by Summit in Sparks and pick up a few things. Another history point is the Donner party information center. Have fun on your get away.

If you go the Summit you have to pay taxes on what you buy... Order online & pay the handling fee... Spend your limited time doing something you can't do online.... Enjoy the scenery......  JMHO..

Want to Thank everyone for the suggestions! Had a great time up there!
88 was an awesome drive, great cruising road with spots to pull over and check it out. 88 is nice and smooth easy curves, nice mellow drive. Lots of tree cutting clean up goining on with some HUGE piles of dead trees and brush.
Considering the recent fires that we've had this is good to see.
Kirkwood wasn't open yet for lunch ended up at The Beacon. Calimari there is really really good! Wife loved it best she's had, I normally don't care for it, but some how ate my fair share. You get a good portion of that stuff. We stayed at a place called the beachcomber, they told us they have a beach, but the lake is so high the water was hitting the steps on our patio.
Took a nice drive around the lake too, water is so clear. Had a good relaxing time what a beautiful place!
Thanks everyone for your suggestions! Well worth the trip! Last picture is our patio where we stayed.

The lake level being up is a good thing cause I've seen it when it's down and you could walk all the way out underneath the docks to get to the water.
