NASCAR was quick to jump on the train hoping to use it as a PR tool as I am sure other sponsors of Richard Petty Motorsports saw it.  Just a matter of following the money for the flavor of the day scenario.

The NASCAR core audience is an aging group that are die hard old school.  Many have left following the sport and after this, you will see even more decide to no longer support NASCAR.  Like the car hobby in general for old cars, the younger guys and girls are not interested in watching a race for four plus hours.

I get a strong suspicion that it's more likely NASCAR was behind it, when it was brought to their attention.  MY OPINION: In recent years, and in years past, NASCAR has never really had a good reputation as being "inclusive" and then the use of the rebel flag by fans always seemed to fuel the controversy. It's mainly always been a "redneck sport"

However, they got nothing but tremendous praise last week when the "noose" was found and they quickly: 1) started an immediate investigation 2) had a solidarity march standing behind Bubba's car like never seen before. For the first time NASCAR made the news with a huge impact in a positive way towards inclusion " look at all us redneck folk....standing behind and showing support for our one person of colour driver.." It made International news and NASCAR looked like champs !

Now some "strange" facts have arisen....1) Bubba never saw the noose ? 2) It was brought to his attention by the president of NASCAR ? 3) Investigation reveals it was just a pull rope on the garage door 4) Other crew members testify it's been like that for a long time

Oddly enough NOT ONE person on a race team or worker for the track, or even an official form NASCAR ....said "Hey guys...it's just a pull rope for the door....every door has one " ...BEFORE they decide to put on a huge show of support in a solidarity march that make INTERNATIONAL news and the perfect time in 2020 history ????

I think they took the opportunity of something as simple as saying.... "that rope looks like a noose...I guess someone wants to lynch Bubba....LoL   and turned it into a huge publicity stunt...and of course the media got wind of it a ran....

I've taught you everything you know....but I haven't taught you everything I know....

Jumping the gun before the facts were brought out and ASSUMING it was a hate crime is wrong - both Bubba and Nascar should be apologizing. Even if it was a pull rope tied in a noose there is NO preoof it was done as a threat, how many of us have doen something similar just for fun? There `s no doubt Nascar was a redneck sport but Bubba has now lost all credibilty.

Wallace is NOT the only driver of color, Swareze is Mexican. Wallace is the only (black) driver. And watching the race it had all the ingredients of a publicity stunt.  :alan2cents:

Racism is wrong, using racism for profit is so low it's off the scale. Honestly I think NASCAR should be shut down.

Plenty of local grass roots tracks to spend/support my time/money at. Nascar will learn the hard way that they are not a necessity.

Racism has no place in society, but this whole thing with the garage rope just detracts from the real issues.

Been using this "noose " for years to unlock garage door after opener died and went manual lift.
Always was told a " noose" needed to have 13 wraps.

Haven't cared about nascar since Richard Petty retired.
Same reason I'm enjoying the classic baseball games being shown now from 30-40 years ago .

Well, no noose is good noose...

The rope was tied  in a noose fashion, not just a loop with a knot.
Bubba knew nothing about it until told later.
Photos show the exact same pit stall in Oct 2019 with the same noose.

If Nascar had done nothing, in the present state of affairs wtf do you think would happen if Bubba had walked into garage and seen it  ?
The media that don't attend the races has been portraying Nascar as racist long past the days when it was "good ol southern boys" decades ago. While Bubba may be the only black driver, the pits have more than plenty of minorities. Minimal minorities in Nascar is not their fault. Take a look at local race events and how many do you find ? While your at it, take a look at other motorsports and how many minorities do you see ?

Isn't that the truth!

How often do we see these nooses in a given day? Perhaps it's time to finally ban these as well.
