Success!
Yesterday I dropped my car off at a friend of mine's body shop.  His shop is around 35 minutes away, so not especially convenient to me, so the logistics of getting together with him to do an estimate and setting up an appointment took some time for me to do.
But anyway I took a day off work yesterday, and dropped my car off first thing.  He arranged a rental car for me, and I left hopeful but given my bad luck expecting we'd still be needing to schedule further work later after the PDR guy he has by once a week worked on it.
He told his PDR guy to do whatever it took, and it took him close to 2 hours he said, including taking the hood off to give better access, and using heat to soften the paint to help prevent it from cracking, but he got it out! Then afterwards they wet sanded and polished to remove marks left from the PDR and even a fisheye from the factory paint job, and it now looks perfect!  He said the hood wasn't aligned well from the factory, so he fixed that.  Now the car is better than the day it was built!
I did a comp claim, the bill was $491 which I paid $100 deductible plus $40 for rental car between the rental, IL taxes and putting a little gas in the rental.
Dave is going to properly paint the pinstripe on my convertible soon.  The previous owner used a decal for the pinstripe, and it's looking a little tired after 25 years, time to redo it factory painted.
Can't say enough about Dave Bosak and his crew at Supreme Bodywerks in Schiller Park IL!   :thankyou::ohyeah:

Wow that's amazing, I never would have guessed the PDR guy would be successful at that one!  :bradsthumb:

Isn't it amazing what some of those PDR guys can do? The first time I saw them in action- around '86, I swore that they'd sold their souls to Satan in order to get the abilities they had! And I speak as a licenced body man. Several thousand hail cars since, they STILL continue to impress me, and I'm both fussy AND able to see flaws; but they generally fix those cars so that you'd never know they had been hammered as much as they were. Glad to see that you were among the initiated!  :bigthumb:
In the immortal words of Jimmy Scott- "pace yourself!"

Honestly, that's nothing for a PDR job.

I implore you to watch some PDR YouTube videos...

I saw a pdr guy do major work on a mustang quarter and door that was hit as somebody was rushing into a parking spot too fast.  these dents were big and long but the paint was still not damaged.  It was his buddies car and jokingly he asked  can you get these out? it took a few evenings after his regular business but once done it was 99.9%.  some of these guys are amazing.  I wish I took before and after pics.

Here it is, it's nice to have this issue resolved and off my immense list of things to do!
I also worked with a plumber friend of mine to replace a vanity in one of my bathrooms yesterday, and then later in the afternoon resisted the urge to take the '09 to a local cruise to show off the fresh repair, and instead took the convertible.  Ironically I ended up parked next to a brand new B5 R/T 392 at the cruise.
The day I took off work ended up very productive!

Comprehensive claims don't raise rates, collision claims do.
I know thats what the companies say but its not entirely honest.

Comprehensive claims count against your rating for one thing....if you make a comp claim and then within a few years try and change companies, THEY SEE IT and it does affect your rating.

Also, I had a stretch where we had NO violations or accidents or kid drivers.....several years....at some point we had 3 cars that were damaged in a hailstorm.

Next renewal, our rate went up and they said it was "due to a statewide rate increase".  Thats ALWAYS their excuse!

When I tried to change companies, all of the ones I talked to said that due to the claims made against my policy they wouldnt be able to offer me top tier rates I was accustomed to....when I  alsed what claims they said the comp claims.

So tread carefully.

It sucks that we pay all sorts of money for coverage and then we have to be afraid to use it.
