So, since 8 years old is older but not stupid old, are you sure something else didn't cause your blowouts? Tires aren't rubbing on anything, are they?

I would suspect the obvious age.
If car sat for long period then somewhat of a flat spot separation stress inside.
Also possible stress in one area if car was strapped down and trailered for long distance. That in itself would increase load pressure dramatically.
Life is to be viewed thru the windshield. Not rear view mirror.
You are the only one in charge of your destiny.

Seeing as this car is not remaining stock with the small block there is no reason to go to Belted polyglas junk
Stay away from BFG arbage too !!
I would be looking at Nittos from Discount tire direct as the best choice & price , second choice would be Cooper Cobras

I was thinking Mickey Thompsons.  Had them on my Barracuda and really liked them.
Contrary to the opinions of some, I am not dumber than I look.

Wow- I am glad no damaged occurred to the car. The Bias Red Lines on my 67 GTX were 27 years old when I sold it but I didn't drive it that much or at high speeds. The BF on my Challenger are on the car for 19 years. No problems yet but again I do not drive it much. Very scary though and will probably be updated them if I decide to keep the car. I did notice on both cars that the rubber got very hard and lost traction much easier.
