I thought the reflection of the clouds on the black paint made it look smokey.

Turn of the century train station in my old home town; Glen Ridge, NJ
Town is one of only about 12 towns in the US that still has the original turn of century gas lamps instead of regular street lights.  Always liked the old fashioned feel of the town.
Pics of the train station built in 1887 shown here in 1910 and it it's current 2018 restored condition.

Just an FYI, I know PG&E up north is talking about doing this and I also thought I've heard that your power provider in SoCal possibly doing the same.
Power company's are talking about cutting power under extreme weather conditions. If it is high winds and high fire danger they will cut the power to the area, "it will be a proactive approach". Probably from what happened from last years fires and lawsuits.

Funny you should mention this as I directly asked said folks of Northern Calif Utility "Why not cut the power if you know the winds will be over 90mph". The response was "We don't have the facility to do that and we will not cut power to 5 Million customers because of the wind" Needless to say I was floored.
