What do you guys in the States, or Western Canada pay for beef at the grocery store ?
I picked up some steaks today and was blown away by the price per kilogram, of course I understand this to be a nice cut of beef, but seriously ?

$81.52 CDN per 1 kilogram  :o

If I do the math right

$36.97 CDN per 1 pound

or roughly

$29.58 USD per 1 pound

Are these prices crazy, or average for North America ? :'(

I get a delivery from https://www.lardermeatco.com/

They send all grass fed and finished beef alongside other types of meats for $150. Comes from local CA farms, primarily in Chico. Really great stuff!  :1place:

Certified Angus Tenderloin, yeah $29 is high but that's the highest cost cut.  I'm sure I could get ripped off buying organic grass fed beef at Whole Foods for even higher price than $29.

I just bought a 22 lb Prime brisket for $3.99 a lb at Costco. Choice was $2.79.

That's 90% of what I'd be paying at a decent local steak house for just the steak.
The type of place with white linens, family style a la carte sides etc.

Now buying that at the grocery store, would be ~60% of that price.

Keep in mind I do live in Wisconsin where we have a lot of cows. I can go 20 minutes from my house and pick out the cow I want from the field and have it delivered in white butcher paper for even less per pound.

Japanese Wagyu beef is $120 per lbs, higher or lower depends on cut. May be radioactive too.

Funny...we certainly weren't rich growing up, but when I was like 10-12 and left to fend for myself for dinner (if my parents went out) My sister and I would just grab some T-bones from the freezer and away we'd go....Growing up my parents always bought beef by the "side" , I'm sure it wasn't $20/lbs then....it was likely pretty darn cheap...that was back when Meat & Potatoes was what you had every night ! :inlove:

That's an insane price Alan. About 3-4 months ago I bought a AAA whole tenderloin at the local Zehrs store, that went about 6-7 lbs and paid somewhere around $80-85 for the whole thing. I think I got about 10-1.5" steaks out of it as well as the side muscle meat that I used to make a killer beef stew. You're too close to Tarana and they're hosing you with Tarana pricing. If I see them on sale again, I'll try to call you with a heads-up. Best be careful on the old BBQ with those rascals!
