I have been buying stuff through the internet since 1993 and I have never been burned.  It finally happened.  In my zeal to get the overhead mounting bracket for the overhead console I jumped too fast.  The person on the site Leeman22(obviously a fake) instructed me to contact a person with the email address andyguy012@gmail.com he had one.  After contacting him and talking about a few more parts I sent him payment through paypal for 300.13.  You know the rest I am sure so stay away from Leeman22 person as a member on e-bodies, andyguy012@email.com, tam31034797@yahoo.com and the phone number 1-206-338-0866.  Fortunately me Credit Card gave me the money back.

Sorry to hear that, thanks for the heads up though!

$300 for a bracket? Please tell me it was touted as a complete console with the bracket.....

I was looking at one of those brackets yesterday... you could fab one up a serviceable one in five minutes.. Once installed no ones gonna see it...

jlemler

Yes, I am sure someone could fabricate it.  It just wouldn't be me.  That is well out of my wheelhouse in this world.  You are correct about the price it was for the whole setup.

That's great that your credit card stepped up for you :worship: most likely wouldn't.

At what point did you know it was a scam ?

That guy tried to get me too! On a set of "original" shaker hot/cold doors. I asked him to send me a pic and he sent a snipped pic of new repop ones. That's how I knew it was a scam.

Do you have a photo of the bracket you need?  I might have one.

Here it is.  Please see the attachment.  I pray to god you have one.

This guy tried to get me too.  Same username same email, leeman22.  When I emailed, he seemed in a hurry to get the payment.  That made me nervous, and I realized I was about to buy something I had not seen pictures of.  The forum is so helpful that I almost forgot to be cautious.  I asked for pictures and a few hours later he sent me some, but they were far from the "near-perfect" parts that he said he had.  I also noticed that the profile for leeman22 was created the previous night which was after my posting in the wanted section had gone up.  I decided to pass.
I later got another message offering me rear side lights and bezels from a similar username leemancox11.  The verbiage in the message was almost identical to the previous one, and the email address was a little different.  I also saw on this case that the profile of leemancox11 was brand new and had just been created the previous night.
I reported this to the admins but did not want to call someone a scam when I did not know for sure, so I did not post it publicly.

It happens to the best of us. I got burned several years ago by a guy in Colorado. He sent me the wrong parts for $300. I found out where he lived and sent the county sheriff out to the address. They reported back that the people who had lived there packed up overnight and left. I located him again in Denver and posted his info on Moparts. He never sold anymore parts that I know of. Several locals on the Moparts website knew him and got the word out after several more reported being ripped off by him. Letting us know is the best way to stop someone like that. I was going to go over to the guys house in Denver and strip his Challenger of parts one night but my wife talked me out of it. Glad you got your money back..

All credit card companies have a consumer fraud department, and they almost all have some form of protection.  If you are a victim of mail fraud, (which is exactly what these scammers are doing...) then the credit card company can help you.

It is important to make sure that you use the credit card as the source of funds for the payment.  If you send from a cash account, or from your paypal balance...obviously you won't get the help.

I am seeing more sophisticated thieves that are responding to wanted ads.  So be careful.  If someone is clever enough to navigate the internet, then they should be able to send me a picture.  I usually ask for a picture of a feature that is not normally asked for.  I have had thieves actually send me file photos from Google...so ask for something like a picture of the part laying on today's newspaper.  Be especially wary of people asking for Zelle before you have even discussed the item in detail.

It's everywhere now...

I wish I have seen this topic before, I was scammed by the same guy yesterday. This lesson costed me $180 as I don't think I will get anything back from PayPal.  :verymad:

Good to know I'm not being paranoid.

I just placed a WTB ad here for a 14x5.5 steel wheel for my trunk. I had a brand new user reach out saying he has the part I need.
No posts on the forum, signed up the same day as my ad. The user sends me a picture of a wheel not even remotely close (let's just say it would never mount on any e-body hub). I said sorry not what I'm looking for. Get another message with pictures of 4 modern rims and to send him my email.

At that point it was too fishy to continue the conversation.
BTW I'm still in the market for my WTB.  :)

Ive tried a couple parts wanted posts on here, and ive had more than a few first time posters try to separate me and my money on them. Just have to beware.

Just wonders how many people still read newspaper. Asking the guy to provide a picture on today's newspaper seems like a monumental task.
