A facebook friend posted this picture on my page today - said it was her neighbors' car.  I can't place it...

Never mind - I got it.  A 1961 Plymouth Savoy police model - 383 Big Block, 325 hp.  :)

Yeah I thought it was a fury at first but the doors (and mainly the trim on the doors) are different.

It's funny - I've never heard of the Savoy model until recently as I've been shopping for 50's Coronets...

Savoy was a lower trim option that lasted up until about 1965, when it was replaced by the Satellite.

Alright then - here's my next question: what's the difference between a coronet and a custom royal (lancer) in the mid-50's?  I can't tell a single difference in any pics...

55 Coronet:

55 Custom Royal:

Actually I see one difference - the little fins above the rear taillights - didn't notice that before...

for 1961 the Savoy was the lowest trim level for the Plymouth car line (all "full size" single body, not a, b & c - like '65)

Savoy - LOW
Belvedere - MEDIUM
Fury - HIGH

the Satellite showed up in '65 on the Plymouth B-body line as the highest trim level

Belvedere I - LOW
Belvedere II - MEDIUM
Satellite - HIGH

similarly ...... the '55 Dodge
Coronet 6 & 8 (LOW trim) hardtop had "Lancer" side trim
Royal 8 (MEDIUM trim) hardtop had "Lancer" side trim (Coronet trim + hooded headlights & other mouldings)
Custom Royal 8 (HIGH trim) hardtop (2dr & 4dr) & convertible had "Lancer" side trim (Royal trim + chrome fins & other mouldings)

"LaFemme" was a mid-year Custom Royal Lancer OPTION

incorrectly restored cars with added trim will add to your confusion

I'd SO love to have one of these. I met the owner at Carlisle one year. It was his Grandfathers car ( bought new) then his Dad's , then passed on to him 25-30? He kept the original old school Hemi but added a paxton style supercharger. Man did that thing go1 Met up with it getting on the hwy going to the show , it shook the door panels in my car! It looks pissed off just standing still!  :)
It was in the burnout contest also.

No, @wldgtx - you are not alone!!  Although I'm more fond of the 1956 variants which have a curving trim towards the rear bumper, and the taillights look way cooler (IMO) in the rear quarter.  I've been looking at "project" versions of these - they're not too pricey, and I think they'd make a badass street rod...
