Obviously Sarcastic as I wouldn't wish these viruses on even some of the worst enemies.
Or maybe...
I'm thinking this Corona Virus is going to inevitably hit hard here soon. :stop: : :vipermanhiding:
It's spreading like wildfire did in Australia.
Hope I'm wrong.

I love how they are putting precautions in place for any people returning from that part of China.....but then you hear people complaining "that's racist" ......it's the furthest thing from racism :headbang:

A nice pandemic could go a long way toward killing off stupid people... Along with everyone else...
I have a friend that is an Air Canada pilot. He posted this morning on his facebook that he was in Shanghai operating the last flight out of here today as Air Canada ceases operations to Beijing and Shanghai.
I couldn't help but think oh great it's pretty sad when a "company" has more sense than the current government as they appear to be doing nothing other than advising people to not travel to these locations? :Thud:
If you have Netflix there is a documentary series on called PANDEMIC. It is very informative and a bit scary and it is modern times and what is going on today..
Check it out.

Ya the wife and I watched it a few weeks back..... :('
That's some scary stuff. Hard to protect ones self from something you can't see. Even tougher when you are in a job that deals with travel and meeting a lot of people....

I was happy to see Air Canada announce that as well.....says a lot about a company that cares about it's employees and customers...

There are widespread discrimination, violence cases reported within China from other provinces toward the Wuhan people out of fear. Some people got killed and then burned. It is like Walking Dead. They tried isolating the city and then the province but it was too late. The governor reported over $5 million people had already left before they can effectively impose the blockade. Once it spreads to the outlying metropolitan cities along the coast it will be chaos in China and for the World. I hope they find a cure or at least some stop gap measures soon. Fake news already popping up on past Monday about confirmed cases here in the SF Bay Area. People are spreading rumors and I think WHO is not treating this seriously enough. This one is worst than SARS because it spread far easier. We need to contain this by stopping the traffics and quarantine the people coming back to the States.
I was in HK for a family trip back in 2003. The hotel I stayed at was reported to be one of the case origin in HK where a hotel guest/patient from China later died. I think I missed that only by days. Scary stuff. Stock up masks and hand sanitizer gel.
so far 2 cases confirmed in Toronto. Good luck in stopping it. Futile , they acted to slow.
China has over a billion in population and this is a lot of hosts to transmit the virus. Did you guys seen the Brad Pitt movie World War Z?

Are you ready? :vipermanhiding:
Try ordering certain items on Amazon and you might see...Delivery not expected till April.
Here we go...Armageddon. :pullinghair:
I've been thinking my daily driver with over 90K on the original front brakes would need a brake job this year at some point, so I ordered the parts last weekend from Rock Auto so I'll have them in stock and ready to install when needed, rather than find they are backordered later.
My '09 Challenger is stored for winter, but I could tell last fall the battery is getting long in the tooth, I wonder if I should buy one now rather than risk finding them hard to find in a month when it's time to take the car out?
And it may be about time for tires.
I'd rather not buy anything from China, but sadly so much comes from there now I'm thinking of what I might need soon from there I should buy now rather than risk it being on back order?
Maybe this Flu will shift more and more manufacturing back perhaps?
Albeit, the Chinese Gov't is already fearing this very possibility that some countries may already be thinking this?
Trump just visited India and whaddya know...they were all Ears and :slapme5: when he was there.
20,000+ die every year from the Flu, so Im not worried about this one.
I just wish the market would chill. My 401k just took a gut punch.
If this becomes a pandemic, 75% of the worlds population is estimated will be infected. With 3% death rate, the world's population will be reduced by 2.25%.

The wife was Really jonesing for another Cruise, so I broke down and agreed and we have been looking at options for a few months now. ( Gotta keep Momma happy!) I'm thinking either wait a few months and see how this pans out of take advantage of some sure to come super deals! LOL We were not planning on going till maybe November of next year.
With all the people and their "herd mentality" buying up all the toilet paper ::) I talked with the wife and today I bought a pile of groceries enough to do us 2-3 weeks, canned goods etc stuff that won't go bad. Just in case.... stuff we will use anyhow when this blows over.
On a positive note I hear our Prime Minister and the NDP leader is now in quarantine as he was "exposed" Fingers crossed! :fingerscrossed: maybe karma will bite!
This better be all blown over by Carlisle!

I think W.H.O. spelled it wrong. It's more PANICDEMIC than PANDEMIC. So far, there's been one (1) elderly (80's and previously ill) man die of Covid in Canada and in 2018 there were 8,511 Canadians die of influenza. Does anyone remember them closing schools, cancelling sports events etc., etc. over that? Me neither. I'm not trying to poo-poo the whole thing, but come on, where's the logic here? The sky is falling, the sky is falling! :looney:

Now I am the farthest thing from a germaphobe there is....I usually don't get too fussed about these things, but I read an article today that put this whole crazy thing into perspective for me. I think I know get it and understand that concern. While I do not think there is a need to panic, I do think we need to be concerned, not for me, I am young and healthy, but for those that are not.

All schools in my county will close after tomorrow, likely till after spring break. The freeway traffics are fairly light this week. Tomorrow I got a meeting in one of the county hospital, not exactly the place I want to be but work is work.
Genentech announced they will be starting delivery of their C19 test kits from their New Jersey plant. About 800k kits every week. Not sure how many will be shipped overseas. Lots of hard working people are putting out their best to face this challenge head on.

Look up "flatten the corona curve" to get a look at why the upfront (over?)reaction is so important. Right now reporting may not be done nor is it complete in all areas so the number s we see may only be a portion of reality.
Canadian scientists have now isolated the virus. Apparently that makes it easier to discover a vaccine. Perhaps it isn't quite time for the world to come to an end just yet.

March break plus 2 weeks for our schools, anyone want to babysit 2 boys, a 4 y/o and 2 y/o for a couple weeks. They never fight, always share, clean up and don't have attitudes..... only kidding  about the babysitting part.
The rest of my 4 y.o's hockey season got cancelled, hockey Canada shut everything down. Poor lil guy isn't going to be happy when i tell him tonight, he couldn't wait for Saturday mornings
Be safe everyone, for anyone stocking up on toilet paper, if you need that much you should have been seeing a doctor a long long time ago :console:
Hasn`t really hit NH yet, only a few cases but a couple schools shut down for a few weeks and most activities cancelled. Our kids school is off Monday so teachers, staff etc. can make a plan, won`t be surprised if they go to online classes for a few weeks also. We just booked a trip to VA for April vacation, planned Carlilse and have a trip to Disney in August but I guess we`ll see if we can go anywhere. So far no talk of shutting down work but my job is in Massachusetts so we`ll see how that goes also. :dunno:
We have been pretty lucky here in Idaho. It was only yesterday that the governor announced the first confirmed case of the virus here. And with it comes all the other crap that is going along with it. TP shortages, public events being shut down ect. Idaho has them now. Only place not reporting is West Virginia. Remember, this only for reported cases, it doesn't mean they are clear.
So get this! The Chinese gov't is trying to blame the U.S. for the virus. :looney:

The only positive thing about this thing is that the gas prices are now below $2.00. But I guess that hurts our oil workers so catch 22.
Well, they're entering full panic mode these days and as of tomorrow, the US/Canada border will be closed! My God, what next? We've had 12 deaths now nationwide and they're closing bars, restaurants, nursing homes and preparing to spend $85,000,000,000 that we don't have on a compensation program that they wouldn't need in the first place if they weren't fear-mongering as much as they have been. In 2018, there were 8511 deaths due to influenza and you didn't hear a peep! My wife's BFF who used to rag me over the food/booze and ammo that I keep, CALLED me- you know she wasn't coming to the house- to inform me that her son said that if it got much worse, he was going to go to my house for the duration. AN EXPLANATION from a microbiologist at the CDC:
Feeling confused as to why Coronavirus is a bigger deal than seasonsl flu? Here it is in a nutshell. I hope this helps. Feel free to share this to others who don't understand...
It has to do with RNA sequencing.... i.e. genetics.
Seasonal flu is an "all human virus". The DNA/RNA chains that make up the virus are recognized by the human immune system. This means that your body has some immunity to it before it comes around each year... you get immunity two ways...through exposure to a virus, or by getting a flu shot.
Novel viruses, come from animals.... the WHO tracks novel viruses in animals, (sometimes for years watching for mutations). Usually these viruses only transfer from animal to animal (pigs in the case of H1N1) (birds in the case of the Spanish flu). But once, one of these animal viruses mutates, and starts to transfer from animals to humans... then it's a problem, Why? Because we have no natural or acquired immunity.. the RNA sequencing of the genes inside the virus isn't human, and the human immune system doesn't recognize it so, we can't fight it off.
Now.... sometimes, the mutation only allows transfer from animal to human, for years it's only transmission is from an infected animal to a human before it finally mutates so that it can now transfer human to human... once that happens..we have a new contagion phase. And depending on the fashion of this new mutation, thats what decides how contagious, or how deadly it's gonna be..
H1N1 was deadly....but it did not mutate in a way that was as deadly as the Spanish flu. It's RNA was slower to mutate and it attacked its host differently, too.
Fast forward.
Now, here comes this Coronavirus... it existed in animals only, for nobody knows how long...but one day, at an animal market, in Wuhan China, in December 2019, it mutated and made the jump from animal to people. At first, only animals could give it to a person... But here is the scary part.... in just TWO WEEKS it mutated again and gained the ability to jump from human to human. Scientists call this quick ability, "slippery"
This Coronavirus, not being in any form a "human" virus (whereas we would all have some natural or acquired immunity). Took off like a rocket. And this was because, humans have no known immunity...doctors have no known medicines for it.
And it just so happens that this particular mutated animal virus, changed itself in such a way the way that it causes great damage to human lungs..
That's why Coronavirus is different from seasonal flu, or H1N1 or any other type of influenza.... this one is slippery AF. And it's a lung eater...And, it's already mutated AGAIN, so that we now have two strains to deal with, strain s, and strain L....which makes it twice as hard to develop a vaccine.
We really have no tools in our shed, with this. History has shown that fast and immediate closings of public places has helped in the past pandemics. Philadelphia and Baltimore were reluctant to close events in 1918 and they were the hardest hit in the US during the Spanish Flu.
Factoid: Henry VIII stayed in his room and allowed no one near him, till the Black Plague passed...(honestly...I understand him so much better now). Just like us, he had no tools in his shed, except social isolation...
And let me end by saying....right now it's hitting older folks harder... but this genome is so slippery...if it mutates again (and it will). Who is to say, what it will do next?
Stay home folks or simply away from others who may be carrying it if you can be outdoors somewhere... and share this to those that just are not catching on.
Just got word via facebook that my niece and her 5 year old daughter in Little River SC have fevers and a dry cough.... not good. Hospitals locally are all now reporting multiple patients with it. The next 2-3 weeks I don't expect to be much "fun" as it ramps up. It's not a surprise though...
Stay inside and away from people folks ..... :alan2cents:
It is a China virus but it's not the people of China that are the problem but rather the government. This feeble attempt by the "media" to not place blame where it belongs sickens me. I wonder how long before you tube removes this one.....
We get every thing else from China, Why not this as well. remember the lead paint on children's toy's, and the pet food that was killing pet's. :bravo: wall-mart for supporting there economy. :looney:
I don't know if you can lay ALL the blame at Walmart's door. We're all complicit in it. Remember when a stroker crank for your Mopar was $3000+ and a set of rods was $800+? I do, and it was the coming of $300 forged cranks from China that caused the upheaval in North American parts prices. You can't blame Walmart if they're selling "widgets" for $3 that're made in China, when the US widgets go for $12. If I want a widget and it's a consumable and the chink ones last nearly, or as, long as the US ones do, guess which one we're all more likely to buy? Having said all that, I think this is an opportunity for the rest of the world to wake up to China's plan for world domination and don't let's send them the money to do it, eh?

This is half the equation. We all want affordable goods, Asia provides them. The other part of this is that anyone with a 401k demands improving returns. Companies improve profitability by reducing labor costs. Labor is cheaper in Asia. Simple as that.
If we want to re-shore manufacturing several things have to happen- we all have to be willing to pay 10-15% more for goods, we all have to be willing to loose 10-15% return on investments, we all need to push the governments to put heavy taxes on income generated by offshore manufacturing to offset the tax breaks provided by foreign governments to relocate.
That's all true. However I think it is pretty evident that health and ethics should not take a back door to greed. I don't think the men that died fighting WWII did so with the idea we could buy second rate crap that we don't need from countries that shoot their own university students for example.
The younger generations just won't listen... ::)
