Last night around 12:30 the hosting company had an issue with a node on our server and our site went down. They did some maintenance to that node and we lost service. I spoke to them again at 4:30 am and they had gotten the website back up, but not the Forum. Just got off the phone with them (about 7:30) and it looks like they have everything working again. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused for anyone.
And thank you to all the let me know if was down. I truly appreciate you taking the time to contact me to let me know if was not working. That's dedication right there! :bravo:
I was starting to get flashbacks from when I recall another website we all know well that crashed quite often. :haha:
I sent CODY a heads up this morning myself.
Just an FYI, the site might go down for about 3 to 8 minutes this afternoon while the hosting company resets our private network now that the Node repair is done. :wrenching:
Just an update on the server node. We were moved to a new node on the server on the 31st, however it's not working very well. Something is causing it to max out the memory and you might be experiencing some slow downs. For the last 5 days I have been working with the hosting company to get it fix. I promise I will get the site back up and working at the top end performance soon.
This is just a notice in case anyone was expecting any slow downs. Depending on your location you might not experience any slow downs at all. Other might see a 10 or 15 second delay on some things. :sorry:
It's been slow for me...I was going to let you know, but I've been busy too
It has been slow for me too, also it seems the ads are interrupting performance. Sometimes the ads force my screen to the bottom of the page repeatedly.
It's kinda been off and on for slowdowns lately and I assume it's based on load.
Sounds like you might be running into some memory leak problems.

:iagree: :rebelflag"
Yup, expected, growing pains.. the site still rocks!
As soon as they moved us to a new node to fix the issue they had with it going down we immediately started having load / slow issues. They are working to figure out what is causing it. Each day they tell me it's fixed close the ticket. I've been very patient with them, but today I was yelling at them on the phone at them. Not something I'm proud of, but this is day 5 and not acceptable. :foul:

That sounds like me.....................load, slowdown and memory leak............ :notsure:
Let me guess, these guys don't have many nodes and you are also seeing a rob Peter to pay Paul effect here.
Ask to have your site moved to it's own node or you will go elsewhere.
:pokeeye:
Yea, we need our own NODE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What ever the heck a NODE is. :haha:  :rebelflag"
That's happened to me a bunch of times too. Super annoying. I do not like. Trying to find out what ad it is so I can tell google to stop running it on our site.

I thought it was my computer or my internet provider ( that often has serious MBPS issues) that was causing pages to load slowly .
Today when I click on show unread posts since last visit I get a white screen, at the top it says, Table " SMFOV " is marked as crashed and should be repaired. :notsure:
Ya, it's really slow today.
Just getting back online with new computer, old one finally just died but new one should be faster and less trouble.
Okay, the site has been moved to a new node. Lets see if this helps with the issues we have been having the last week. :fingerscrossed:
Still getting the crashed screen.
I tried clearing the cashe. Can you check it again and see what it does now?

Working great for me at least on my Windows 10 with Firefox
For some still having troubles try downloading your Windows Updates and your browsers updates that may be the problem and may help
Working well for me as I just added some pics to my post on the garage.............And didn't have to resize....that is great.......
My expert help has told me we might have something breaking the "sessions table". We will need to log everyone out for a short period in an effort to fix it. Sorry, but everyone will need to log back in after the update is done. By the time you see this message you might have already had to log back in. :sorry: for any inconvenience this may cause. Just doing our best to make sure everything is working and we are all getting the best forum experience possible.
Hang in there while we make these updates.

Sorry everyone. Laura was kind enough to let me know if was down and our hosting company jumped right on getting it fixed. Turned out to be a simple issue, but took a little bit to find the problem. All good now! :drinkingbud:
It's aliiiive!!!
Welcome back !! as we were all in withdrawal !
Need that e-body fix!
Site is working well now. I noticed this AM it was down but knew it would be fixed. Had also noticed last several days it was unstable. Hope the new node fixes all!
Still slow for me on desktop windows7 or iPhone 6s. No issues other sites.
Sorry buddy. :sorry: I'm working with the hosting company to figure why it's bogging down.

Okay... a little update. Ever since they moved us to a new node two weeks ago we have been having issues. The very short story is I run backups daily of the site (I'm super over the top safe when it comes to protecting our site). I have the system (WHM) run a complete backup each night. I also run a WordPress backup and a C-Panel backup each day. These backups (set to run automatically) take about 20 to 30 minutes to run. Then I send the backups to a offsite storage drive for safe keeping.
Then 2 weeks ago we started having the site go down. It happened a couple times and the hosting company said they were having a few issues with the node so to make it better they were switching us to a new node. THAT"S WHEN ALL HE!! BROKE LOOSE. Now each one of my back up takes from 5 hours to 12 hours to run. Basically putting the load at the maximum and slowing the site down to a crawl. I've hired a 3rd party to evaluate the logs and determine what is going on. I will get the site back up and running at top speed with full backups.
So you can see exactly what I'm talking about. Here is the chart of the loads. You can clearly see when they moved us to a new node and how the server is responding. Those spikes are the backups that run. There was NO CHANGE to the site other then they moved it. But they continue to tell me it's not their servers causing the problem.
So now you know what is going on and why the site has been slow. :sorry: I will get it solved one way or another. I promise you.
The current load chart. They keep telling me they think they fixed it but nothing is changing. I have requested to be moved to a new container. If that does not work I will look in to finding a new hosting plan or company.
Thanks for taking such good care of us Cody! :worship:
If your backups are scheduled on top of each other (one snapshot does not finish before the next starts) you will get resource locks and contention. They should be able to detect that. If it was running fine before the move to a new VM host then they certainly can move it back.
Just make sure they do not have you on the same cluster as some porn site :soshelp:

:iagree: We love ya man. :thankyou:
Good point XeGnome. I have been running the same scheduled backups at different times so they do just as you said... not overlap. The large one starts at 11:45pm at night the others run right after each other at 5:30pm. In the past they only take about 20 to 30 minutes. Now they are taking so many hours they are over lapping. So I'm running them manually right now once I know the first one is done so they do not over lap.
Cody,
You said you do full backups nightly? Maybe I'm not understanding correctly but most folks to a full backup weekly or biweekly and do incremental backups in between full backups.
This way you only take a longer hit for a full backup once a week or possibly twice a month.the incremental backups would be fairly quick as they are only that day's deltas.
B
We have the server set to back up the full site each night. The site is still at a size that it was only taking about 30 minutes to complete a full backup (until they moved us). Once we grow to a size that it no longer backs up fast I will have to back off to once or twice a week. Right now the last full backup took 12 hours for a site that was at 19.54 gigs. The transfer rate was 200kb/sec. Back in the 90's the decent 3.5" floppies could transfer at 500kb/sec. It's half as slow as a 1990's floppy disc. :Thud:

We think it has to do with a PHP script and the ZIP process because it only slows down while it's trying to zip the backup.
Ouch, losing to a floppy disk is not good.
Looks like you are throttled on the cpu side and hence why it's taking so long (PHP & ZIP). Compression alone can peg a CPU.
Weird issues going on again so I logged out, then back in and noticed a post from last night is gone. :notsure:
:Thud: That's news to me about any post being removed or lost. Do you know what post it was? I wonder if the original poster removed it?
I purchased a 2nd server in Washington DC and have been running tests on it. All the test pass with flying colors. It's WAY faster then what we are on now in LA. I've got more leg work to do before we make the decision to move hosting containers, but looks like we are going to have to do it. I will let everyone know before we make the move just in case the site is down while they move us.
Thank you everyone for being understanding while I work through this.

Actually you didn't post it in the "joke section" you posted it here: https://forum.e-bodies.org/general-topics/7/funny-pictures-memes-videos/269/msg52207#new in the "funny memes" section.....It's still there :alan2cents:
Maybe it's only me and my time zone or hours that I get on the forum but I have not had any of the problems mentioned with the internet on this forum site???
Cody, every site I've even spent time on has had issues that lead to some down time & frustration.... It's how it's dealt with (or not) that determines whether members continue to participate..... I'd have to say your more proactive than any forum owner I've ever had the pleasure to interact with..... Thank You!!!
working sweet for me now!
i'm in northern va
Thanks!
I think we almost have it all worked out. Going to make a few more improvements in the next couple days in hopes to improve the user experience in terms of time for pages to load. :bigthumb:

I looked at the loads and it does not appear it was down. If it was, it might have only been down for a short period. We can not have the site going down on your birthday! :bigthumb:
