Title: Fender Tag
Post by: farmboy70 on March 02, 2017, 10:30:46 AM
Hi
Found this tag from a old parts car I had a few years ago.
Kept this around as I think this was a very unique car back in the day.
If you decode it I think you'll see what I mean.
While now a hemi or anything high performance, cool anyway.

Cool tag Dave. I wouldn't mind having that car with all the options. It would be a great daily driver.  :woohoo:

What's the deal with the K in the VON?  Isn't that special order paint?   :notsure:

the '70 sunroof Challengers are a bit "ODD" - NO "sunroof" M51 fender tag code (need a b'cast sheet for "proof")

it looks like:
Chrysler spec'd "sales bank" cars got a "K" VON
Dealer spec'd "SOLD" cars received a normal 6-digit VON

& I know of two that were dealer spec'd with a sunroof & special order paint - they have "J" VONs

I wrecked out a 383-2, P31 car back in the 80's. i kept that stuff a long time and finally almost gave it away. I always thought it was a cool option. My 69 Hemi GTX had it.

When I purchased that car all that was left of it was the sunroof and power windows.
The car was picked clean of everything else.
But the good news was it was perfect for my challenger.
Sunroof with all its parts intact and windows that were a piece of cake to install.
No wore out parts and worked perfectly.
Was glad to get them.

Installation and adjustment. Using a battery with jumper wires, you have to hook up the wires to make the window go up, then unhook and reverse to make it go down etc.....much easier with crank windows.

I bought the PW parts car because I wanted to add them to this car. When I seen the complexity of the wiring and the holes that had to be drilled I stopped thankfully. Not my photo, this is a photo by the current owner.

Power Windows kinda scare me for that reason.  If I had an original car that had them, I would make it work and figure it out.  But it does seem like a lot of work.  :alan2cents:

Looks like 138 to me too, unless maybe something has clipped the leading part of the next to last digit on the tag.

That's too bad about that car - it was on eBay in 2013 as a more complete car - definitely had potential. So Dave - is car K00188 officially crushed and gone to the great scrap yard in the sky?

The car is gone. I cut it to pieces.
I have the fender tag and title, no vin tag as dash assembly was gone.

I've owned a couple P31 cars, current car I added relays which helped allot, and currently I'm swapping out the motors, I had one that even with relays was still sluggish, I'd seen Dorman was offering replacement motors, about 25% smaller than the OE motors & I had doubts but someone else tried them & posted that they worked well.... I bought one just to try it & it works faster & stronger that the old design motors ever did..... So I bought the other three & currently I'm swapping them out.... All four are in, just doing adjustments on the window then clean & reinstall the panels...

Man, that's making me want to work on my Challenger!  N88, P31, & C62.  No luggage rack here though.

What's the value of a complete E body power window setup these days?  All 4 regulators with working motors and good complete wiring harness with grommets.  I don't recall whether it has the switches.

Obviously the more options there are the more difficult the restoration. Power windows are a pain to install.
Makes it more Challenging when customers bring me basket cases that nobody el;se wants to do....

@1 Wild R/T (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/1-wild-rt_320) came across your post and I'm doing this now.  Did you support the end of the new motors at all like the originals had the brackets bolted on?  Or did you just do the 3 screws by the gear and let the end hang free?
Title: Re: Fender Tag
Post by: 1 Wild R/T on November 15, 2021, 06:44:39 PM
Just let it float, hasn't been a problem, it's what the OE's have been doing for thirty years now... I'll bet the bracket is more about supporting the heavy OE motor preventing it banging or rattling on a bumpy road than controlling torque...  The new motors are smaller & lighter...
