Title: Snobar Auction Preview day! (Photos)
Post by: Cuda Cody on July 31, 2017, 08:07:46 PM
Got to see a bunch of friends and even met some new cool people.  It's like a remembrance event for Ben plus we get to look at all his cool stuff he collected.  I tried to take some photos of some neat things, but there is so much there it's hard to show it all in photos.  I heard the online bids were really taking off and I expect some good bidding tomorrow to get some of the things I have my eye on.  Here's some photos from today...

I can't get over the organization.....unbelievable.....I'm still confused about so many small (1) piece lots... :looney:  Seems like it would take forever to go through...

Best of luck for the Snobar family, I wish them all the best over the next couple of days and I hope that everybody leaves happy :drinkingbud:

Great job on organizing it all. I actually think it will be nice to see that stuff get into circulation again. Hopefully we'll see the parts and cars at shows in the near future.

There is online access to the auction, isn't there?  How does one find it?

I'd love to see what I can get one of those Gen I Stratus Coupes for in that second photo, in the back (black and white ones)  :)

I'm more curious on what different items are selling for. This will somewhat give us a idea what someone is willing to pay.I'm sure the prices will be all over the place. Cheap on one thing and high on another. Cody, if you do have the time make a note on what things are selling for. I'm sure the bidding will be at a fast pace.
It's nothing BUT MONEY. https://forum.e-bodies.org/Smileys/akyhne/yes4.gif

I haven't been able to view them.  I did put in a bid on a Viper part for tomorrow - that's basically all I can do.

LOTS of e-body parts going up tomorrow - grills, fenders, door panels...  If you didn't pre-register yesterday, you can still register today and pre-bid on tomorrow's auction until 10AM EASTERN time (8AM Pacific time).  I'm assuming that the highest pre-bid number becomes the starting bid during the live auction...?

Jason - were you able to download the software to view?  Once you do, run it, and in the bottom left corner, type in "livedemo" for username, and "kenmore" as password, and hit Log-in.  It'll take a few seconds (where it looks like it's doing nothing) and then it'll pop up.  You can see the history back to lot #1.

What lot are they on now?

Freakin missed the 2pm cutoff but I did get to put some bids in.

Don't think any of them will buy something but I may get surprised.

:notsure:

Funny I told a friend had I been bidding on the Hemi Charger I would have gone up to 50k. Still too many things unknown.

I wrote down most of the prices (about 95% of them) for the first day.  They are the hammer prices and do not include the fees or tax.  If anyone needs to know what a lot number sold for, just ask.  I might not be able to respond right away as I'll be at the 2nd day of the auction tomorrow.

I would be interested in the prices for any of the rear-ends pots, lot 605 and a few before that.

On day 2 there were some 74 grills, lot 1111.  if you happened to note that down, I would interested in knowing what that went for.

Thanks man.

I didn't get the price on 666 as I was bidding one a bunch of stuff right then.   I remember looking at 666 and had it crossed off on my bid list.  I must have saw something wrong with it while it was hanging on the wall.   I bought a lot of the 340 six pack stuff and paid about $175 to $200 per carb.  I ended up with the 340 intake (lot 696) and four 340 carbs (lot 662, 663, 665, and 667).   AND then when I got home I found out that 2 of the carbs I bought I had not inspected well enough and the bases were broke.  I kinda got screwed, but it was my fault for not looking closer.

Best deals by far was the Viper parts.  All the other Mopar stuff went for pretty much at market, but the Viper parts no body was there to bid on.  Air Bags, headlights, rocker covers, center caps, bumpers, soft tops, nos consoles, trunk lids, nos fenders and pretty much any Viper part there you could have for $25 to $50.  Some of these were NOS and retail over $1,000.  I'm kicking myself for not buying it, but I told myself not to buy anything I wasn't going to use.  I know who bought the viper parts and they are a member here.  I'm super happy they got all the viper stuff.

the '09 was stupid money spent IMO. they are $18-19k TOPS and even then it better be under 10k miles. there is nothing special about '09s.

Looks like parts speculators to me. Full retail and more on most items. It's kind of ironic, Ben had a way of getting full retail and more when he sold stuff.

Just for giggles do you have info on:

Thanks!

Cody, by looking at the prices. You got a fair deal on the carbs 150-200.    350 for the trans , good price.   Is that the trans that had no serial number- the warranty transmission. If so, that will be great for a T/A or AAR that is missing the original tans.

The trans I bought had a 1970 VIN on it.  I bid the 18 spline unstamped trans up a bit, but there was a guy there that was NOT GOING TO LEAVE without it.  He took it up to $2,100.   :Thud: After fees and taxes it was $2,517.90 and still needs to be rebuilt.

That's a little crazy...maybe he plans on stamping it to match his car. ?

@ec_co (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/ecco_77) The Challenger had 14 miles on it, not a typo, FOURTEEN miles.

@Cuda Cody (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/cuda-cody_1) Total was a little under $700k.

I thought other than a few notable exceptions prices were very fair.  Julius made the comment that the press scared a lot of big players away and they are really regretting not coming.  I bid on some items for a notable east coast vendor and he was very happy with the items I bought for him.  Some items I ended up with:

1st Gen Viper Top for $50
Magnesium single 4 BBL Hemi intake $125
I bought the AM/FM E-Body radio and the 8 track, need them both for customer cars.
72 Road Runner grill for $100
Keith Black vintage aluminum Hemi valve covers $550
Entire drawer of adjustable rockers (probably 7-8 sets) $400
67 Satellite 2 Door $1300 (going to a customer in Sweden)

Bought a few more things (OK a lot more things) and it was a blast.  Definitely a unique experience getting the opportunity to go through a collection like this and organize it for auction.  Hope to be able to do it again in the future but not many collections like this out there.

I was right behind you and wanted to bid on the E-Body 8 track (the one with the working door) and the FM radio, but I backed off when I saw you go in on them.  I really didn't have to have them so I was fine not getting them.  The viper stuff was the bargain of the event.  I got home to find some neat NOS viper stuff in a box I bought.  Wish I would have bought more viper stuff.

Looking at the prices listed today on the auction site, I am really surprised at the low prices on the Viper items.

I was shocked that the Vipers sold for so little on Saturday. I guess it was the wrong crowd for Vipers.

That is the truth.  I wish I would have bought more Viper stuff as the price was right.  I just told myself not to buy anything that I wasn't going to use.  Now I'm kicking myself.  But I know who got a lot of the Viper stuff and they are good people.   :bigthumb:  @cudajunction (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/cudajunction_141)    :D

Quote@ Cuda Cody Total was a little under $700k.

I find this very surprising :unbelievable:  that puts the lot average at a little over $400 only ? With 2-3 cars alone totally over $100K there must have been a lot of $25-$50 lots :dunno:

Either way, I'm super happy for the family, although Ben will be sadly missed I'm sure and no amount of money can change that :andyangel:

The Viper cars themselves were all in very rough shape.  Totaled and put back together on a budget.  Prices for the Vipers were right in line for what the cars were.  The Viper parts were given away at bids of $25 or $50 for mostly NOS or good take off parts.

Thanks Cody for the info.

It looks like those chunks went for a good price if you don't have to rebuild them and they are not missing teeth.

I'm surprised #544 went for 700 bucks for a 18 spline tranny.

Lot 666 went for $175.

Lot 605 went for $325.

Plus fines, fees and penalties of course.

I think @Cuda Cody (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/cuda-cody_1)  got the rest of the inquiries handled.

After the coyote duster air cleaner lids in lot #3 and #4 went for $300 a piece, we knew nothing was going to be cheap.  I believe this auction speaks to the strength of the hobby.  There is no shortage of people that feel that the "old guys" are dying off, there are not enough younger people to take up the charge and the hobby will slowly die through attrition.  I saw plenty of guys a long way off from retirement in the crowd and the robust bidding showed me that people are confident in where the car/parts prices are going.

I bid $100 on the other two as well but would of definitely gone up on #1616 but couldn't since I had issues logging in on the auction day.

Well that's odd.

I tried to place a pre bid on an item and it said I needed to enter 200+ for something like that so I did not bid.  I swear that item went for less then that.  Not a big deal but odd.

By the way all the sale prices are now on line at the auction company's site.   Just click on past auctions.

@cudajunction (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/cudajunction_141)  I do love Vipers and would be happy to help you with anything I can if you ever want to buy one.  They are a wonderful car.  Different then an E-Body, but cool in their own way.

The first photos of me and my Viper Build Sheet was taken about 15 years ago when I talk a buddy that worked at the factory to sneak the travelers pack in my new Viper before it shipped.  He hid it under the seat just like the old days and I was sooooo excited to find it was still under the seat when it was delivered to the dealer.  The travelers pack contained the build sheet, dyno test, water leak test, shim report, and so many other cool things.  As far as I've ever heard my Viper is the only one that has the original travelers package.  They were not allowed out of the factory because they kept them on file for warranty purposes.

Well color me amazed - I was sitting there at a car dealership (more on that later) and was checking my email when I got an invoice.  An invoice for what?

Why, an invoice from the Ben Snobar auction!  I won a Viper power steering rack.  They normally go for about $1,100 bucks, but I got mine for $200!  I bid $300 online, so I was pretty pleased!  Now, if I can just figure out how to get it here...
