I currently have 15" ralleys on my all black car. I am kind of digging the plain black steel wheel look with poverty caps. Opinions?
Both a good look IMHO.

I agree. You can't go wrong either way. I'm personally doing bias plies on steel wheels and radials on rallye. Best of both worlds...
My car is supposed to be black with the steel wheels - personally, I prefer the steel wheels - I love the utilitarian look of poverty caps and painted wheels just remind me of the seventies. I do like the Rallye wheels, and almost purchased a set before I go the broadcast sheet showing the steelies - got a set from Tony's parts - I think the price is right and they look awesome on the car, just wish I would have ponied up for the Polyglas tires....
IMHO...steelies on any cuda or Challenger looks bad. They also look bad on any other car. It's like you are trying to make it look like your Grandpa's station wagon. If I only had steelies to roll my Challenger on...it would stay in the garage till I could get some proper shoes for it.
Not that I have a strong opinion on this...lol... :))
You did ask for an opinion.....If you like the utilitarian look...drive a tow truck.....not a cuda.
:D
Not a fan of steel wheels at all, sorry :console:
I have to agree with dodj on this one. I hate the look of steel wheels and hubcaps. It just cheapens and kills the classy look that all E-bodies have to me. If I bought another cuda and it had poverty caps on it the very first thing I would do would be to replace them. But to each their own. At least it gives the car a different look. :dunno:
I like the caps on the all black option. But can't go wrong with either.
I like the Ralley rims. Usually guys would get the car with the steel wheels and caps if they were going to put some kind of chrome or mag wheels on it. Why spend extra if you are just going to discard them.
Not a steelie fan either, they can look alright on a b-body though. The black one pulls it off though I guess.
Rallyes for me. The Steelies look cheap.
Another hater of steel wheels and dog dish caps, they have no place on a muscle car - put them back on Grannys /6 Dart where they belong! And since you asked I don`t like Rallyes either = BORING! Almost every muscle car I remember seeing back in the mid `70`s-`80`s had aftermarket wheels - Cragar S/S, aluminum slots, Keystone Klassics etc.
You can't go wrong either way.
I love both on E-bodies.
The steel wheels make your car look all business.
I really liked how they looked on my V-Code RR (sorry I know this is an Ebody site)
Ralleys on an E and steel on a B
IMO for a 15 inch OEM wheel...
Rallyes are so common on an e-body it gets kind of boring.
Steel wheels have grown on me over the years and can be a nice alternative.
They do look mean on an all black car with the squared shoulder of a Polyglas. Not all body colors look good on a steel wheel.
I do prefer the Dodge dog dishes with the red fratzog vs Plymouth's.
15 inch road wheels with trim rings look good even though not OEM correct.
Rallye wheels! :1place:
But, if you have two sets of wheels/tires, swap them every once in awhile.
All good input. Thanks guys!
Either Rallyes or Steelies look great. 70 Cuda's used the "Plymouth Division" imprinted hubcaps with silver argent accents on the perimeter which are a nice touch over the plain hubcaps.
It is very easy to have a set of each type of wheel you like and change it up every so often. Tires are safe for approximately six years so stagger the purchase of tires with your various wheels and enjoy!
Not a fan of the Steelies....
Joe
I have to say I am surprised by how many people dislike the steelies.... I would have thought "prefer" rallye wheels, but there seems to be a dislike for the steelies; interesting toe considering I love the steel wheels and poverty caps....fun topic either way

I`m surprised as well, on most FB pages it seems the vast majority go GAGA over steelies - maybe just not on E-bodies?

Ya, almost every musclecar had them back then, now, they seem to be pretty rare. I remember the S/S and Klassics the most.
I have Torq-Thrust wheels on my Challenger.
The steelies look OK but would not be my choice.
Just to throw a wild card out there, I think you can't beat Cragar's!! Keep the stealies/rallye wheels for show (if you need OEM) and drive it with Cragar's, you'll get more stares ;)

I guess I can see where some people are coming from; the E-body is classy and tough looking and lends itself to a styled wheel to complete the look. I just like the "all business" look that steelies give. The steel wheels, to me, give the impression of a no-frills, my money is all in the motor vibe. I agree that on some color Ebodies, it just doesnt look right. Definitely better looking on A and B bodies. But I do think an all black Cuda really looks good with the black steelies. Just can't decide if I want to keep or sell the 15" Ralleys. I can get a nice set of steelies, all black with nice poverty caps for under $500.
I like the steelies. I think they look raw and kind of menacing, stripped down, unpolished and all about the business of going fast and having muscle. I don't get the granny car comments at all personally. I think the opposite. I think they look mean.
Rallye wheels, although nice looking, are everywhere you turn. When I see a car with steelies, it always draws my attention.
I like both options. one is classy, the other is tough.
For me they both have there place if I had a tough hemi 4 speed street fighter of a car then the plan steelines. But for the show car screen the mopar rallye wheels look awsome . One thing for sure I would not want to get to many flat tyres with the steel wheels because pulling off that hub cap to many times I could chip the paint. On the beautifuly painted rims .
I think steel wheels would work on your car IF it was any other color than black. I think steel wheels pop when they are painted a body color of orange, red, purple, etc.
My choice.

Keep your rallyes in storage and put the steelies on. It's your car after all. Do what floats your boat.

My choice.
If I had those, I'd leave them.
I would love to choose between 15" steels and 15" rallyes, but my car came with 14x6 and spoke hubcaps.
It just seems so wrong on a 1971 340/4 spd car.
I know the first owner swapped them to 14x6 sport wheels before he took it off the lot.
It has 15" rallyes now, but I might take it to it's first show with hubcaps
The only cars that I think shouldn't have steelies are AAR's and T/A's. Those should be rallyes.

AAR's ONLY come with rallyes, they were never optioned for steel wheels.

...and that's why they look so bad with them on...
Pulled the trigger and got the Steelies. Now do I black powdercoat or leave the 25+ year old black paint on...(or try that product Steel-It). Has anyone used it?
When I factory ordered my original '70 'Cuda in Oct. of '69 (yes I'm old) I purposefully passed on the Rallye wheels and got the steelies and poverty caps. As a 22 year old and being a teenager in the '60s during the original muscle car era, and frequently cruising Whittier Blvd, I knew that as soon as I got the car I was going to install 5 spoke mags ASAP. (Pic #1) After the tire shop installed the new mag wheels they asked me what I wanted to do with the steelies and poverty caps. Since I was living in an apartment at the time and didn't have any storage space I told them to just throw them in their dumpster. :o :-[ :clueless:  :crying: When I bought my current '70 'Cuda in 2009 it came with factory Rallye wheels. (Pic #2) When I finished the restoration 8 years later the Rallye wheels still needed a lot of love. Being a fan of the "day two" look anyway and wanting to get the car quickly back on the road I bought and installed American Racing 5 spoke Polished Aluminum wheels with BF Goodrich TA Radials. (Pic #3) One of these days I'll finish restoring the OEM Rallye wheels, but I'm in no hurry as I'll probably just hang them on the shop wall anyway. No, they're not for sale.

Exactly where steelies and poverty caps belong! :haha:
Rallyes for me also.
Steelies state cheap to me.
