Not trying to ruffle feathers so delete if inappropriate. Some of us with e body verts thought it would be fun to have a specific Facebook group relating to these cars. I like the other Facebook group as much as this forum but convertible posts get buried fast under the heavy volume of everything else.
We started a discussion about the need and whether such a group already existed and it was quickly deleted so apparently that's a no-no. Not finding a specific e body vert group, I made this one but if there's already one out there, please advise.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/222077699116416/?ref=share
The idea is it would be open to all enthusiasts, e body verts of all types and conditions, and also a place to buy/sell vert specific parts. It would not see a heavy volume of daily posts but that's also part of the appealing my opinion. If the shared link doesn't work, search groups for "E-body Convertibles"
I'm not active whatsoever on Facebook, but it seems to me that if you start it, promote it.....like minded people are likely to find it and join. The success is something that I imagine will take time.....Sounds like a good idea to me.....they are a pretty unique low production vehicles :dunno:
What I'd really like is for Cody or someone to add such a group. He does a great job facilitating this forum and the Facebook page. I have no interest in competing with his success though I don't see it really as competing since people join multiple groups depending on their interests. I definitely don't have time but this group of enthusiasts seem very well behaved so management is probably not much trouble.
If someone wants to take it over or create a better one, they will get no push back from me! I just like scrolling through cool stuff in the morning while I drink my coffee.
I'd be interested but I've steered clear of Facebook (along with Instagram and Twitter)
Has anyone ever started an E body convertible registry? It would be great if there was one. I know Ole Neilson (sp?) has documented them but not sure if that's a full blown registry or information he's personally compiled over the years and shared. A registry with a website and chat room would fill the need.
I have no clue what I'm doing but I might be interested in taking that on. I'm not a real fan of Facebook, some presence there is probably a good idea but it would be nice to have a one off of this site perhaps. Thoughts?? :dunno:
Regards, Dave
I agree, not a Facebook fan either
Yes we need a convert forum thank you
I wouldn't be surprised of Ola Nelson has something already going on Facebook ?
The past few weeks I've done a number of different searches and I kept coming up empty. I found one that was a page but that's different than a group. I'm definitely not a social media junkie and hardly a big fan of Facebook but I see the value in a place like that where people can chit chat about their hobby and share stuff. Really it's not that much different than this forum except more of a streamlined way of getting your daily car fix.
The true knowledge base is on the forum in my opinion. I have posted technical questions on the forum and also the e body Facebook page and received far better information on the forum.
Cody has a Facebook page for e bodies now if people were unaware of that. It's really great but it's so big and popular now that posts get buried fast.

Go ahead and join. I'll make you an admin guy to see if you feel like doing it. I suppose the only thing to do is approve new members and periodically delete inappropriate posts.
Is it possible for Cody to add another Section For "Convertibles" such as the "New Members" Section is. Able to post in a specific area, but accessible for everyone.
I am an admin on an A66-specific Facebook group, it's nice to discuss specifics of that model, but discussions are not as detailed as on a forum, but most people like the FB format better now.... Be specific in your questions to new members and don't be afraid to reject more requests than you accept, lots of people stop when they see a questionnaire, but you still get it as a member request...
I also set up a website through GoDaddy with links to the FB group (And E-bodies.org!) www.a66challenger.com
Ola would definitely be a good person to involve in a registry project, he's already got a lot of info
Ben
I'd be good with a "vert section here... go figure... :drinkingbud:
I looked up ola on Facebook. There are a hundred people with that name. If someone wants to share the link with him...
I think a convertible section here would be great.
My problem with facebook is all the very unnecessary posts. It gets very mundane. I'm a member of ebodies facebook but I don't enjoy it near as much as talking with you guys.
I'm for a section here for just convertible, but really so much of this site applies to things that all convertibles also share with lowly hardtops. ;)
I can't imagine a totally separate convertible only would have enough traffic. I'd be here more.
I'd certainly join a Facebook page, but doubt it would be as informative as here.
I'd like to see a convertible section here also
Ad me as number 8, Im waiting.
On the last post on this topic I said I would start one and I did on Facebook. In no way is it meant to compete with this site/Facebook page. We are up to 50 members now, so feel free to look it up. Mopar E-Body Convertible Forum
Thanks Eric. I didn't find it the other day so I started one. You're off to a good start. I posted the link to your group on mine in the hopes of moving everyone to your site.
The idea of a vert only section on this forum may not be all that helpful. This site has 2000 members. The sister Facebook group Cody created sometime back has over 10000 members. It also gets a different kind of traffic there than here. Here is far more detailed and technical whereas the Facebook thing is more for just mindless and fast scrolling through pictures and stuff while you're drinking coffee.
Not a Facebook junkie by any means but you can't deny it's relevance. I belong to quite a few car groups in there and some have over 50000 members. The parts groups and cars for sale groups are also pretty nice. There are specific Mopar cars for sale groups and the deals I see in there are sensational.
Reading some of the comments in here is kinda amusing. Neither really is meant to replace the other. They are just different and useful in their own way. If I were looking for a car to buy, I'd find 500 on Facebook for every one in here. On the other hand, if I wanted detailed instructions or thoughtful advice on a repair, this forum is the place to go. The advice I see on the Facebook posts is laughable sometimes.
I put almost nothing about my personal life on Facebook and put very little on my own personal page. It can be useful to stay connected to people through their messaging app. Oddly enough, I choose to unfollow almost everyone (you're still connected to them but you don't see their posts unless you deliberately look them up). The reason? Far too many people use it as a platform to rant about politics or share a picture of their meal. And they don't realize no one is looking at it because they have been unfollowed for posting stupid stuff. No, Facebooks only true purpose is to look at mountains of car stuff every morning.
I don't have Facebook so I would love to see it here.

You could get it though. It's free. And then you could see awesome cars in other locations too. Sort of like having more than one magazine subscription.
I disagree, it's far from free. Mark Zuckerberg didn't become a billionaire by performing a public service. When you register and start posting, Facebook harvests your data and sells it to the highest bidder.
The thing about privacy is, that once you lose it, you can never get it back. :alan2cents:
There's groups on Facebook I'd like to join, and I'd like to buy and sell on Facebook marketplace.
But my privacy, along with some other things I'd like to avoid like the plague, like having to see Facebook friends posting pictures of their dinner, 10 year olds soccer game, or their "enlightened" political crap, etc, make the cost outweigh the benefits for me!

Whatever happened to starting a convertible group. Not on Facebook, haven't looked on Facebook for a convertible group. Link on page one goes nowhere.
I have emailed Ola for a bit of info, but it would be interesting to have something like the A66 thread to check out.

You can always start a Convertible topic thread on here for owners to check in and comment....if it takes off, ask Cody to stick a pin on it :dunno:
The link will not work for me, maybe it is just a security thing. I am a member on FB of a convertible group:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/518462179030164
It is run by Eric Conrad and has about 1,000 members (Ola Nillson is a member). The key for me is it is a Private group so access is restricted and ONLY members can post. Plus when I post to the site it does not hit my FB Wall/Feed for all to see pop-up (so private).
EDIT: I just noticed that this is a very old post, and most of my comments have already been said but decided to leave it.

I found the page for the Facebook group. It's private.
Not on Facebook, nor will I ever be a member.
As far as starting a group here, I would be the reason for it's failure.
I don't have all the answers, or access to anything that is not already online.
Plus, I'd be working from a phone, not a desktop.
First I've heard about it just joined.
Thanks
I enjoy FB in a social media function, it is great for seeing & sharing pics as well as some historical info, and maybe activities. I would always come to this .org for info/questions about E-Bodies and would hate to see a "splintered" scenario where you'd have to check multiple locations for info & input. I love that I can read & learn info about e-bodies that I never new, and maybe don't even need to know (what can I say I'm retired & bored).
I get it that not everyone will be on FB, no problem. But if you really want to be invisible online I'm not sure even this sight is immune, or eBay, or CraigsList, or any online storefront, etc. We do the best we can for privacy and security, even on FB.
I see it as two totally separate things and they usually have two totally separate users. A lot of people on social media have no clue about forums nor any desire to be a part of one. As such, I've been able to score great stuff including a 71 Barracuda that was advertised only on a Mopar FB group. I've met several local Mopar guys from the groups as well and now call a couple of them friends. And of course many of the forum guys will never go near FB and I get it. I've noticed sellers on FB groups usually want top dollar while forum guys just want to help out other car guys which is great.
Another thing I've noticed is that in the forums, it's the same ten people dominating the discussions. Not that any of the information is bad but it's nice to have a broader sampling of opinions sometimes. The flip side of that though is sifting through the FB clowns making negative comments.
I don't understand how people find the time for multiple platforms....I guess it's because I don't have a cell phone...

Yes, I run it and have a couple of other members here as moderators. We did break 1000 members!!! It will also stay private and we work very hard to vet who we let join as there are a lot of scammers out there and others who join groups just to spread their own personal political/religious agendas. I do not permit that on the facebook page.
If you tried to join and were declined, send me a PM! If you haven't joined yet, come on over and join! There's lots of good convertible knowledge there, cars/parts for sale & wanted, and lots of great pics!
Thanks!
As Erik said, there's a lot of energy spent on vetting and also on ensuring the content stays on point. That's not the case on many other groups. But there are a thousand groups so you leave the ones you don't like and stay in the ones you do. I belong to about 12 car groups. If one group starts to decline in some way, I simply leave. The convertible group is by far the best run in my opinion. I never see any negativity because it's simply not tolerated.
Alan, it's not really time intensive as you come and go as you please. The newest and most popular content stays at the top so you can scan through it periodically and you're certainly not required to scroll through it all. My morning routine is to drink my coffee and peruse the group content each morning. I find it relaxing and enjoyable to see brief snapshots of people's beautiful cars. Most of the time, it's just sharing but some groups specialize in selling which can be great if you're into parts or projects. Those selling groups are the ones that get the most junk though. Guys selling minivans and other crap. If I can't find something I need on the forum, good chance I'll get it in a group once I put out a wanted post.
I do get why people want to protect their privacy by not using FB. Those f'ers are terrible about scraping data from users. I can do a google search on hunting supplies and suddenly get tons of advertising posts sprinkled throughout the feed relating to hunting. It's pretty focused and while I could simply scroll past the ads, I have to admit a few have caught my attention. Even the forums use advertising to pay the bills but FB is more focused on showing you stuff you might actually be interested in which is good if not a little scary. Fortunately, I don't put my life on FB and I don't google search weird stuff.

I would think that wouldn't be too hard to do. All you have to do is get ahold of one of the admins. I haven't felt Cody's "presence" here as much as in the past (I'm sure he's busy with Enzo being an awesome dad). You would have to send something specific directly to admin to get their attention and get it added. I'll tag the two admins that I know of and we'll see what happens ...
