Hello Everyone,
It's been a long time since I have been on the forum.
I have had some medical issues over the past year and a half and have been unable to get my Challenger back together.
I am looking for someone in the Metro Atlanta area that can help me get her back together and running.
I am willing to pay for the help if anyone knows someone that can give me a hand I would greatly appreciate it.
My wife wants me to sell the car and I can't blame her. It's been sitting for over two years and I am making payments on her.
I kept the insurance up to date but with the medical issues I have and my wife also maybe she is right.
I would like to drive her again and maybe keep her for as long as I can.
I am going for another Surgery on August 9, and I have some tests to do over the next two weeks.
But hopefully I will be able to assist in the process. God willing....
Like I said I am willing to pay for someones time if they can help.
Thank you all.
Joe
I was going to fly up & put it back together but , i doubt I can get into the US right now at all .
We can probably set up donations again & help out as we used to do in the past to help members out !! :cooldance:
Oldschool is near there he must know someone that could help also !
I know a fella in GA about 1 1/2 hours from ya. Been a few years since I talked to him. I could ask if he's interested in helping put it back together.
Also, know another fella in Alabama that might want to help.
They aren't members here and I'm sure they would charge for their time.
I hope you can put it back together and drive it again before you have to sell it.
Do you have an old thread on the car?
Thanks cuda hunter!
Neil started out helping me over the phone and still does. But I ran into some problems.
I will definitely pay for the help. I appreciated Niels offer and I know he would fly up here in a minute but I don't want him
to take the chance with the way things are right now.
I'm not looking for charity just help getting her back together.
Yes I have threads on here and I was active until SHTF....LOL
It kills me with her sitting in the garage collecting dust.
Anyone that can help I will pay for their time that's not a problem.
My# is 770-624-6555
Thanks!
Joe
Remember when we all used to dig in & help people build entire cars , We could do that again !!
If we all pitched in a few $$ we could easily get this done , We need to make this stuff happen again !!
I guess the first thing is to post exactly where the project is in the process? What needs attention? :dunno:
Cam & top end of the engine is apart , needs the cam dialed in , valve springs swapped , rockers assembled & adjusted . then the top & front of the engine put together .
Neil nailed it.
Between work and working on the house I would try to get something done on the car.
I got frustrated trying to dial the cam in. Numbers weren't matching the cam card. I let it sit for a while then some medical issues.
Now more medical issues popped up.
Josh pm'd me and he was going to talk to some people to see if they can help.
He has a busy schedule for the next several weeks and I don't want to put anyone out.
The car has sat for over two years so when someone has the time that's ok with me.
I appreciate the responses so far. I understand everyone has commitments.
I'll be out of action for a couple weeks myself. Have some tests this week and Surgery set for August 9.
If everything goes ok with the surgery I'll be able to help with the car after recovery. Maybe towards the end of August.
Thanks !
Joe
I know Joe could use some financial help not being ble to work for a bit & still making payments .
I will donate :takemymoney:
Anything new to report? How are you doing Joe?
Hey Brad,
I'm doing OK. Recovery went well. More Doctor bills...lol.
I think I must have sent a couple kids to college.
Car is still here. I'm still here.
How are you doing?
Joe
:tired: :sorry:
Sorry to hear about the bills... :tired:
As I said I am happy to donate , the members here used to help restore entire cars , I guess I am the only one left , this site has sure changed !

I am willing to help some with funds, but can't give much physical help given location. I would be interested in status & pics, and a list of any parts needed (I may have "spares" to send).
I'm with Neil. I'll send a donation. Just give me the details.
I'm in, just need the details.
Wow. Thanks guys.
I ran into problems dialing in the cam.
Couldn't get the numbers to match the cam card. Brand new Lunati cam, timing set, springs and lifters. New roller rockers fro PQ. I probably need to get new push rods.
I got frustrated and left it. Then Medical issues both me and my wife. Then the bills. Trying to work as much as I can.
My wifes has been paying the car payment out of her check. It's a good thing she works too.
I was hoping to get Neil up here but after Covid the travel restrictions killed that idea. I don't want him getting stuck
and not being able to get back home.
Here are some pics of where it stands now and what it was before I tore it down.
Joe
I really appreciate all the offers for funds but I can't take any money. And my wife agrees.
The economy right now is crap and who knows what's going to happen in the next several months.
Inflation is hurting everyone. I don't want to take food off anyone's table.
I was hoping that someone nearer to me might be able to lend a hand getting it back together.
Any ideas will help.
Josh might be passing by hear in January and said he'll see if he can figure something out.
Either way I really do appreciate the offers. You guys rock!
I'll keep you posted.
Joe
I wouldn't offer if I didn't want to help. My offer still stands regardless of what you say. :) We just need to know where to send the money so it makes it to your project. It's not about the money it's about helping.

Thanks Dave. I appreciate that. Let me talk to my wife.

You may be right Alan but these guys wanting to help me financially because of the medical bills and me might having to sell the car
speaks a lot about their character. I couldn't be more appreciative of their offer.
Joe
Well After talking to my wife again we both agree we can hold out a wile longer. I might have some new
Jobs coming up I'll know this week. We are not falling behind on bills yet things are just tight right now.
On a another note I had a video call with Neil today and we got the cam dialed in....
Next up is changing out the Valve springs....and another video call...lol
Again I want to thank all of you who offered to help. It really means a lot to both me and my wife.
If things turn sour I'll take you guys up on your offer. But for now we can hang on.
I'll keep you posted on the progress and everything else.
Joe
I can chip in too. It's too far for me to help physically and I'm no engine builder anyways. Keep us posted.
Yup, we have a great bunch of guys here, and you're in good hands with Neil :worship:

Same for me.
It's kind of funny Alan. I never met Neil face to face but we became good friends just talking over the phone these
last couple years.
Maybe someday I'll get to shake his hand.
Got the timing cover cleaned up and installed the new crank seal.
Had to file groves in the cam button to clear the cam bolts.
Took a little time to file down the button to get the clearance to the cover.
I'm slow I know...lol
Then the wife had me do some stuff for her..... ::)
Joe
Glad I could help via video call to get the cam dialed in correctly , really it was straight forward to do it !
Money comes & money goes , people have helped me here at times as well , the bottom line is I don't want to see you lose the car for a few $1000 when you have hardly even enjoyed it so far .
It felt good getting back on the car buddy!
Joe
This is great news!
The rest of the parts should just fall in place and you will be burning tires in no time.

Thanks buddy!
Speaking of falling in place....I was ready to put the timing chain cover on and a bolt fell into the oil pan. :Thud:
One step forward two steps back.
Any way got one side of the center link disconnected but can't swing it out of the way because of the headers. So I have to take it off altogether.
I have a 7 quart pan on there which I don't like. Got to be careful wherever I went as not to bottom out.
So when i get it of I'll see if my wife will give me an early Christmas gift and get a new pan.
Probably could have left it but with my luck I thought it best to get that bolt out.
I will get the other side off this week and get the oil pan out.
On a good note got two decent size jobs booked this past week. One coming up this weekend and one next weekend. :)
That's a added boost to my normal jobs.
Since I had that video call with Neil I got the itch back. :stayinlane:
Joe
Hey Josh
The last update was when I dropped the bolt in the oil pan. :Thud:
Well I swapped out the 7 qt. pan for a 6 qt pan got the pick up tube installed and put the front end back together.
The timing cover and damper is back on. Fuel pump installed. Took the alternator and the March brackets and water pump
out on the bench and started to Compare to the pictures I took before I broke it down.
Then got busy with work. Also was sick for a while. Went for a MRI in Feb. for my prostate and it looked like possible Cancer. So two weeks ago went for a biopsy
And the results came back negative.
Put work off for a week then back at it.
Now next week I have time to get back on the car. :wrenching:
Hope to get those March pulleys and water pump, alternator, power steering pump reservoir back together this week.
Then move on to the radiator etc.
Joe
Glad to hear the good news!
Can't wait to see some more pics of your awesome car!
Yesterday I got the water pump, alternator and power steering pump/reservoir installed.
Good thing I took pictures before I broke it down. Had to play with the spacers and switched out a couple bolts that were too short in my opinion.
Was hoping to get more done but maybe Friday I'll have some more time.
How's things? Are you doing ok? Anymore progress on the car?
Hope all is well.
Odd that this came up , I am worried , I have always been able to reach Joe , we usually talk twice / month , I cannot reach him now , anyone near Kennisaw that could check on him ?
I'm still breathing..lol
Tried reaching you Neil a couple times.
More medical issues here. Cancer is back.Leg and arm.
The car is running and going up for sale soon. Got some loose ends to tie up.
Call me tomorrow night if you get a chance.
Hope everyone here is doing fine. Sorry I haven't been on here in a while . Too much crap happening.
Sucks getting old...lol
Joe
Here's an update.
The cam that Neil helped me pick out works great. I can actually stop the car now without standing on the pedal...lol
Lunati roller cam and PRW steel roller rockers.
That purple cam produced no vacuum. Ran like a raped ape but not street-able. Getting rid of the MSD dist too. Ordered a new one from Dave at Mancini with vacuum advance. New proform carb 850 CFM on top. My kids bought me that 2 years ago for Christmas. It's been a long time coming.
I won't lie I got choked up when she finally started up and Backed out of the garage after almost 5 years.
Been a long bumpy road. I hope she doesn't sell too fast. I'd like to have some fun for a change.
Again I apologize for not keeping up with this forum. Too many health issues and other stuff that life has been throwing at me.
I wish I could meet some of you guys. Neil has been a great friend. Maybe some day I can thank him in person.
We'll see what the big guy upstairs has in-store for me.
Joe
Joe, just wondering how you are doing?
Hey Brad
Going for a bone biopsy on my arm this week. Next week a CT Scan of my head. Leg and arm constantly hurt.
But I'm still kicking. I hope everyone here is doing well.
Closed part of my business. Couldn't do it anymore.
The car sold! I brought it to Streetside Classics.I didn't want to deal with people. To many scams out there. I had that problem
when I tried to sell my 2009 Challenger back in 2014. Waiting on some paper work so I can collect my money. I did get to drive it a little.
Ran great. If my health wasn't so messed up I would have kept it. I have to get my Medical bills and credit card debt payed off.
I didn't want to leave my wife with a bunch of bills to pay when I'm gone.
Brad when are you getting out of Canada?
Again I hope everyone here is doing well.
Joe
Good to hear that you are getting your lose ends tied up.
Really cool that you were able to drive it around some. Nothing like that experience.
I will say a prayer for your positive health.

Sorry to hear your in pain. Glad you were able to get the car sold. Sounded like a fun ride! Me and Canada.... LOL I'm stuck here the wife won't leave. We have a developer wanting to buy our house for a significant amount of money, enough to retire immediately"IF" we were to move to SC but wife says no.... :pullinghair:
If we stay here we work right up until noon on the day of our funeral's....
I know it's hard to make a move especially out of the Country. When we moved down here to GA from NY That was a big problem for the wife.
And we weren't moving to a different Country...lol
Has she ever been to SC? Take her on a road trip to SC maybe she'll change her mind.
Or how about here in GA. You are welcome to come here. You never know maybe she'll change her mind if she sees what you can get here for the money compared to Canada.
We are not yet full blown communist here...lol (i said yet!) lol.
Either way good luck. I hope it works out for you.
Joe

Oh most of her family live near the SC/NC border, we go down often. She has always lived here though.

Maybe having family there makes it easier...but...back when it looked like my job was disappearing I investigated moving to the USA as a possibilty and it's not just pack up the truck and move. They have to be interested in the skills you are bringing and be young enough not to be a burden on them. At the time, as a 45 year old electrician I could not move unless a company sponsored my move and explained why a Canadian electrician was needed for the job instead of an American electrician. Which, from an American perspective is quite reasonable I figured. Prevented my move though.
Glad you got to drive the car before you sold it Joe. I'll bet it brought a smile to your face

Yes it did. But with all my health issues I had no choice. The car ended up in Colorado.
