Pontiac 400, removing fuel return line.

Hi Guys,

My buddy dropped a car off at my parents house for me to get back on the road. It's a 1972 Grand Prix with the 6.6 liter 400ci motor, auto, no A/C.

The fuel return line is rotted out and the fuel feed line was replaced when the body was separated form the chassis awhile ago. He picked up an aftermarket fuel pump that has no return line on it. I understand why cars have fuel returns to prevent vapor lock.

We are not interested in putting too much money into this car for something that is going to be cruised around a couple days a year. Other than vapor lock, I see no issue is just capping the port on the tank, using the fuel pump with no return line, and adding a vented fuel cap. It's an edelbrock fuel pump putting out 6 psi, according to summit.

I have no knowledge of Pontiac motors but I see no reason why this would not work? We do not live in a hot place and this car will never see traffic in it's life so hot fuel is not a worry.
Anyone want to chime in? I am trying to validate my thoughts before I modify a car I know zero about.

Do it, what's the worse that could happen, have to go back & add the line that you were considering adding anyway?
