Removing vinyl paint

Is there a way to remove old vinyl paint that won't damage the part or the original grain? TIA

You'd want to test on the back of the panel to see if what you use will damage the plastic.  I've tried brake fluid before but didn't have great results.  Brake fluid will remove paint on an inner fender in a heartbeat but it won't remove paint on a part when you want it to.  I bought some environment friendly "orange" paint stripper.  It doesn't work very quickly but if you let the parts sit over night, it does work.  I wonder if that product would damage the plastic?  I might have a spare kick panel I could test it on.

I've used oven cleaner on hard plastic parts and it does remove the paint without softening the plastic.  Not sure how it would work on a softer plastic like a door panel.

Ya I have thought about using oven cleaner too. Has anyone tried this on a door panel or seatback?

Lacquer thinner works great for removing paint from E-body door panels. I've done it myself with no problems. Put it on a rag and rub.

 I did try oven cleaner on doors panel and didn't work. It worked good on the metal hinge cover of the seats do

I just removed lacquer paint from the A pillar covers on my 71 road runner. I painted them 25 years ago. Those covers look to be the same material as the seat backs and door panels. I tried the oven cleaner, isopropyl alcohol and lacquer thinner with no luck. So I tried Goof off using a rag and wiping, it was starting to remove paint but slowly and it would evaporate very fast but I kept at  it  and got one done. I then decided to cover the part with micro fiber rags and soak with the goof off and the paint lifted quickly with great results. You need to keep the rag wet and in contact with the part. I think the lacquer thinner would work with the same process but I know the Goof off did not harm the material and it's $17  per gal. at the Home depot.
