FJ6: Single Stage Engine Comp, BCCC Exterior?

Looking for input.  71 FJ6 Sassy Grass.  My plan is to use single stage for underneath, trunk, and engine compartment, and BCCC for the exterior, including the door jambs.  I believe I had read this is typically the strategy when you do BCCC for the exterior, but I'm not an expert so I figured I'd check here first.  I already have all the product, but if I need to switch my plan now is the time.

Anyone have experience with this color with this situation?

I did Single Stage for my FJ6 Green Go Challenger. Both for engine comp and outside. The general consensus I always got from reading is if it's a solid color the SS gives it a deeper finish where as metallic colors do better with BCCC 🤷🏻‍♂️

I use the same paint everywhere. You don't want a different look under the hood compared to the tops of the fenders. Also I think it's easier to repair a mark under the hood with base/clear. If you don't do a lot of painting it's also good to practice on the other areas with the same system you are going to do the exterior with. The FJ6 didn't cover as well as I thought it would so make sure you have enough. I can't even remember what brand I used.

I did my EV2 Tor-Red Barracuda with single stage on the underside, engine compartment, trunk and jambs then base/clear on the exterior. IMO it`s less work and materials using single stage and very few can tell the difference.

You might not get the same exact  color with 2 different kinds of paint. A shade off underneath and in the trunk you probably won't notice a difference. I would do the engine bay and the top with the same paint because the fender is right on top of the inner fenders.

According to my findings, the match won't even be close and it will be very apparent when you open the hood. The only way I can see you getting away with it is if you have a really good paint mix guy at your supplier and you do a lot of spray outs.

Not sure what you mean by your "findings " but I can get colors mixed in single stage or base/clear and match just fine.

My comments from your parallel post on moparts:

That's the combo my car (71 Challenger GA4) was done in 30 years ago. Worked well.
Only difference was we did the jams in single stage too. No isses in color matching.

GA4 is a metallic and my painter had no issues in using the 2 different types of paint. It was all done based on his recommendations and experience.
It was all PPG product and it was a long time ago. I know the technology and environental requirements of auto paint have changed formulations considerably since then.

That`s a given any time you have paint mixed no matter what type or brand. I have been using the same store to get my paint for30+ years even though it is a bit of a drive because I know and trust the guy who mixes it but you always need to check it.
