Edited: Z bar mount in wrong place ?

70 Cuda 383 Tremec 5 speed

My clutch pedal has never had a proper travel. I have a Ram brand HD Diaphragm clutch which looks and feels like new and has less than 15,000 miles on it. Street use only. Mechanical (not hyd) clutch and a Tremec 5 speed. 

I have to have my pedal pressed into the carpet to put into gear and with about 1" of travel the car starts to creep. At the top, the pedal has 1" of free play. I'm starting to wonder if my system from pedal to clutch fork doesn't have the proper stroke. I bought the car in '14 from the guy that rebuilt the car. Everything from paint to engine rebuild. I'm constantly coming across things that weren't properly done.

For whatever reason, I never gave any thought to the angle of my linkage from Clutch fork to Z Bar mainly because I had assumed it was straight when pedal was depressed. I also hadn't noticed the lower and back slightly hole for the Z Bar mount to go into the bellhousing.  Could this be my problem ?

Go to Brewers web page and look at the different zbars you will be able to tell by the pictures if you have the right one,

Don't know if this helps but you don't need 1" of free play. You just need enough so the bearing isn't touching the fingers when it released. 1" seems a lot.

You have surmised correctly that the angle is the problem.  It's sucking up the throw.
Your adjustment link should be 90° out of the fork.
Scatter sheild problems with multiple pivot holes.
Does the lower mount point align with the frame rail mount?

I'll check the next time I have a chance. God I hope so.

The ballstud should be in the lower hole.  Looks like a Quicktime bell.

As it turns out, the ballstud in the top hole has a 5/8" thread end, but the bottom hole is 1/2". No way to enlarge the hole, so I put one of the ball studs on the lathe, turned it down and used a 1/2" die on it. Everything seems to work as it was supposed to now.
