On a 70 Challenger did the front passengers have two separate seat belts , the shoulder belt and the lap belt. Did you have to use both ? or did people just use the lap belt? If install a new headliner must i put the shoulder bet back in ?

The next time I see someone using the shoulder belts on a 1970 Challenger will be the first time.  They are separate belts and nobody uses them that I know.  But I always put them in.

I'm thinking of putting the rear seat belt up front . that way I don't have an unused bucking floating around and getting in the way

RJ.......funny you should inquire about the separate shoulder/lap belts in your Challenger. I too experienced the same inconvenience of hooking both up when it was a daily driver. I finally told myself "enough" and pulled the entire set of the deluxe 3 point seat belts from a '74 Challenger. They installed with no modifications and work perfectly well. Work exactly like the modern belts. Problem solved.     Thanks,   Al

I always wore them when racing or on the highway. I didn't bother in town.

I always use both my lap and shoulder belts when driving my hardtop Challengers.  I sometimes feel a little bit at risk when I drive my convertible.  There is actually a shoulder belt option in E body convertibles but my car doesn't have it, nor have I ever actually seen one with it!
I learned to fly in Cessnas and until the latest generation were made starting in 1996, they had separate lap and shoulder belts.  I never really was in that much of a habit of wearing seatbelts in cars until I starting flying in the late 80s.  Now I wouldn't even think of driving without wearing seatbelts.  When I bought my '71 at auction in 2010, I found it didn't have seat belts in it!  When I came back the next day to drive it home, I brought the driver side seat belts from my T/A project and installed them before driving home.
I was in a terrible accident flying a Cessna Skyhawk in 1991, and I'm not sure how I survived it.  I am sure I wouldn't be here today if I hadn't had my shoulder belt on, or I'd be a drooling vegetable in an institution for the last 25 years.  :alan2cents:

When I bought my car(1980) it was already taken apart and many pieces missing , we didn't have digital camera's back then. (Actually you would take a picture and drive down to the hardware store and in the corner of the parking lot was a foto mat ,you would drive by drop of your film and wait a week to go pick up your pictures) The seat belts were in a bag , I naturally assumed the back seat held 4 people and the front had two people. you either put the lap or shoulder belt on . Now I know why 70 console had a spot for seat belts.
