Apparently no one makes seat foam for a '73-74  Cuda or Challenger.  What have you guys used or suggest?

Cuda Cody

Seems like none of the foam is perfect anyway and whenever I do a set of seats so I just end up making the changes I need to get the foam to fit.  Could you start with 71 cuda foam or maybe 73 B body foam and make some changes?  Foam is pretty easy to cut and glue as needed.

On a side note, make a copy of the build sheet and put it in the seats.  At some point in the future someone is going to look for a build sheet and it will be a nice surprise for them.

Ok, thanks.  Just weird no one makes 73-74 foam..... :notsure:

I would assume people are using the standard 71 foam as a base and working it from there. At least you would have something to work with as a base.

I spoke to Legendary while at SEMA, they couldn't confirm nor would they deny when asked if they were working on a foam set for the 73-74 E body, my gut feel was they are looking at it, demand wasn't driving it though

aren't the '73-'74 seat frames just the shells and the foam/springs are molded together?

The seats changed in 73.  The foam was no longer a separate replaceable part.  The foam was molded around the frame/springs.  If the foam is shot, you have to add generic pieces onto the area and try to reshape it.

When I had my 73's seat covers installed, the upholstery shop wrapped the seats in a plastic woven material.  It kind of looks like the material used on more expensive plastic tarps.  It really does a great job and stiffening up the seats. They wrapped my Dart's seats in it too.  I don't have a picture of the Challenger seats but here you can see that material on the bottom of my Dart seats.

Looks great!   :bradsthumb:  Good upholstery shops can work magic and you really feel the difference in the seat.

I did not know this. Learn something new every day if you're not careful.

PUI lists a 72 foam, but neither legendary or pui have a 73-74

The back seat on my 1974 cuda is a crummy factory replica of that 1970-1 rear seat.
What can I do, replace it with a 1970 cover? The factory seats went down hill on the 1972-4 , real thin and simple. Mine are still good, so the foam is solid. Can It be done?

Here is the seat back and you can see the foam is all around the seat frame

Darn: That's all good until it all crumbles.

I took my rear seat to a local upholstery shop. They used blocks of foam and ground it to the desired shape then skinned with new covers. This is the procedure they use for custom seats and the results are very good.

Cheers!
