Cig lighter plug resto?

Probably a stupid question but I'm sitting at work and it popped into my head.  Can the original lighter receptacle be restored?  I tried a USB charger adapter in mine and was surprised it would work but the connection was very tenuous and you had to get it adjusted just so.  The part in the bottom looks rusty.  I haven't stuck my head under there but thought I would ask. 

Thankfully have no need for the lighter any more other than a convenient power source.  I'm not against updating to multiple ports or a hard wired USB station in the ashtray, but if the original parts can be made to work I'd give it a go.  Not a numbers resto so I don't need date coded cigarette butts in there.  Though if I looked hard enough in my piles of crap and the corners of my shop, I might find a couple from that decade.

Back in the 90's I grabbed probably two dozen lighter elements & sockets out of cars in Pick n Pull... They all had never been used...  If I pulled the lighter & it had the slightest sign of being used I just left it there... Perfect ones were pretty common back then... Through the years I've slowly used them up....

The first thing I would do is soak it in EvapoRust.  With the rust and scale gone, it may work again.

If you already have the EvpoRust, I'd just soak it.  You're not out anything at that point.  IF you have to go buy a gallon of EvapoRust at $27, then it makes sense to just buy new.

Looks pretty stock.  Added to my List in the event the resto doesn't work out.  Of course I had to add this as well
