jute pad roof insulation

I bought the 2 pieces of jute pad for insulating the roof. One piece seems to fit between the roof support at the back window and the center roof support. The second piece seems to go between the front roof support and the center support, but it is wide enough that it overlaps the center support. Is this correct, or should this be trimmed so that it does not overlap the support?
