Bluemonster71RT

Hello everyone. I see a lot of folks I have seen on CC.com.  I have been a member there for many years and the amount of help I received was invaluable in getting my car back together after getting it back in my possession in boxes and bags after a shop owner ended his life in the middle of my restoration. I hope that I can find the same kind of atmosphere here too. I'll always have tons of questions and I also wish to help others too. As far as my ride goes its a 71 Challenger RT 383 4 speed. My father bought it new in Nov of 70 in Texas just before he went to Nam. I bought it from him in 03 when he had the terrible thought of trading it in for a new Vette. It's been back on the road for 2 years now, though not as nice as I wanted I'd say for my first put together and paint job I did ok. Anyway I hope to have much fun here too.

Welcome @Bluemonster71RT   :welcome:  Thanks for introducing yourself.  :handshake:   That is fantastic that you have your fathers original E-Body.  What a great feeling that must be to be able to drive a car you dad bought new.   :clapping:  You know we're going to want some photos.  ;)   :takepicture:   :please:  You can upload them on this site without having to resizing them too.   :bigthumb:

71GranCoupe

:welcome: from Las Vegas, sure like the part of the story where you got the car away from Dad before he traded it on a vette. Lots of valuable info here.  :unitedstates:

1st pic is last fall and the pic with the Vette was taken days before I brought it to the shop for the resto (04 I think) and just before my parents moved to Fla.

I badly want to. BUT because there are some things I messed up when I painted it , I was thinking of giving it one more try. 3rd times the charm they say lol.

It looks good in the photo.  What are you thinking you want to improve on the paint?

On the lower right hand quarter, I was moving around the car with the gun and the air hose got twisted and swung up and touched the wet paint. I missed it in time to fix it when it was wet. Then when buffing the passenger door I didn't see that the fringe was grabbing the lower edge of the lower body line and I burned off too much and you can see primer. Then, though it looks decent from a untrained eye, I can see that I didn't spray enough color and the metallic is splotchy in a lot of areas. Most people that see the car probably don't notice or care but I look at bad body work all day at work (auto recycling yard) and it upsets me knowing that I now know what I did wrong.

Metallic paints can be pretty hard to shoot and not get tiger stripes or blotches so don't be to hard on yourself.  For someone that does not do it for a living it looks like it came out pretty good.  Kudos to you for doing it yourself.   :drinkingbud:  Even if it's not perfect, you can say you did it and that's something to be proud of.
