I am selling a 3438178 Alternator Professionally restored by Jim Ridge@Dixie Restoration last August, I had him switch out the dual groove pulley for a single groove, he also added the correct orange paint mark typically found on 3438172 Alternators indicating it was amp tested. I was going to use this on my 1971 340 Motor and had it rebuilt to closely resemble a 1971 3438172 Alternator but was fortunate enough to pick up an NOS "172" Alternator at Mecum last month that I will be using that. This Alternator was also restored with the correct style bearing and was bench tested and put out 56 Amps.  $400 plus shipping. PM me shipping is from Akron, Ohio 44305.
P.M me if interested

Last time before it goes to ebay ...$300.00 + shipping. It cost me way more than that to have Jim restore my supplied core.

Is this correct for 71 only?  What's the specific motor/year it would have came on originally?

1970-71....I had Jim make it look like a 172 alternator which came on 340 engine, he swapped the pulley from a dual to single and added the orange paint daub indicating a amp test. The alternator in original form (178) according to Jim could have been used on Hemi engines or cars with A/C.

Question:

Never found my build sheet, so don't have the exact alternator number.

Was hoping someone could tell me which alternator part numbers could have been used on my vehicle:

1970 Challenger
440-4
4-speed
26" radiator
Manual Steering
Vehicle Built around the end of April 1970

Thanks very much

Well, I need one for a 440 6 pack trac pac manual.  Is a 178 the correct alternator for the 440/6?
If this is correct for the 440/6 1970 I'm in.
