some of the following "not written in stone", but what is .........

the shield was also used on N95, N96, N97 B-body cars HEMI & 6bbl (ECS emissions, fresh air hood, CA noise reduction)

@RUNCHARGER  some HEMI Superbirds may not have come with the shield - every other HEMI car built at Lynch Rd. (with the exception of the above mentioned N95, N96, N97 cars) had a fresh air hood, so at the beginning of the model year the need for most of the shielded HEMI air cleaners was at St. Louis for the Charger R/T.  Inventory on hand may not have bee sufficient for the number of HEMI Superbirds released to the line in a relatively short period.
