If you have followed along on my joining,  you know I'm a long term owner.  I've never really geeked out on tag, build sheet info as my cars were mostly complete and original when I got them.
But now I'm studying all the details.
I have a von on a car I know was special ordered.  It's just a number sequence. No letter prefix.
Is this correct,  or should it have a letter code for special order?
And is there a box on the build sheet to look for?

The VON number is on the top line of the broadcast sheet to the left of the VIN number along with the date. :alan2cents:

Mr Cuda

I guess my confusion is,  the fender tag  has no letter prefix on the von,  just the sequence number of 018982.
So will the y39 special order be on the build sheet?
I guess I need to go find it?

anlauto

"Y" codes are in the top line as well, on the right hand side.

@Mr Cuda
I guess it depends what you consider "Special Order"

there are Chrysler spec'd cars - usually Y16 "sales bank"
there are dealer spec'd cars - usually intended to sit for sale on a dealership's lot
there are customer spec'd cars - usually Y14 "sold car" (this isn't a "special ordered car" it is simply a customer ordered cars, maybe 25% of 1970 production)

there are Chrysler spec'd "special order" cars - Y39 - these are Superbirds, 300Hs, "M-code" Darts & Barracudas
there are customer (or dealer) spec'd "special order" cars - Y39  - these cars are ones built that have PAINT/INTERIOR or OPTIONs that are not on the "normal" STANDARD OPTION lists for a particular car
- the most common are SPECIAL PAINT: (C-body only colors on E/B-bodies) EA4 or EA9 on a '70 Challenger (1970 only colors on a '71-'74 car) EK2 '71 Challenger or FC7 '74 'cuda
- there are some SPECIAL INTERIOR: white vinyl interior in a Challenger SE, early '70 'cuda with "Gran Coupe" houndstooth interior

Mr Cuda

Myself solved. For me at least.
6bblgt, you explained it well,. It's a sold car, Y14 with his option list.
Not the way most would order.

my factory T/A-hooded 383 Challenger R/T with A/C is also simply a customer ordered Y14 car

Or will we ever see pictures of it?  I think I've seen one in the many years.

That is one of the absolute coolest challengers ever built.  Just because of the Hood!!  Be like a dream to find that in a field.

I think I may have seen pictures of Dans in a shop.  I've only seen one T/A hood non T/A car in person before and that is the well known red hemi car.
I have pictures of a red hemi Challenger at an area show 30 years ago but don't know if it's that same car or if it was even factory. The one I've seen belonged to a guy in Texas in the 80s I'm pretty sure, and I don't know if it ended up in Illinois for a time. Sadly that was ancient history before I paid attention to tags.
