The block I got with my car was cracked in the lifter valley and the repair leaked when it was pressure tested. It has since been repaired again and passes pressure test.

My questions are:

What was the block worth before it passed PT?

What is the block worth now that it passes PT?

Flatdad

Depends on the bore size, the way the repair was done, how the repair physically looks, and if you saved your receipt from the pressure test. Not joking.

It's 0.030 over and it's a long story but the guy interested in buying it is the one that actually had the repair done on it so he knows it is good.

He and I need to agree on a price and I just want to be reasonable about it.

Where was the crack in the valley? In the valley wall, in a bulkhead, through a cam journal, through a lifter bore, through a galley. Was it spray welded, was it brazed, stick welded, cooled slowly in an oven, welded under a tree in some guys backyard, pinned, lock n' stitched???

Not trying to be rude, its just location of the crack and method of repair would dictate how much I'd value one.

At the end of the day, its worth what he's willing to pay.

Not knowing anything else about it, I'd spitball a guess of between $2500 and $3500 would be fair. There are folks out there who would pay even more, but it wouldn't necessarily be a fair price. Hope this is helpful to your situation.

Flatdad is a whole lot more generous than I, because a broken, mended but leaking and re-mended 30 over block would be worth about $1.50 per pound to me. Good block for a trophy engine, but I sure wouldn't feel secure with it in a car driving down the road. But then, that's just my  :alan2cents:

Have the main saddles been magnafluxed? It sounds like a $3500 block to a guy willing to pay it.

Yes, everything has been checked out including the repair. I originally had a figure of $3k in my head...I was just wondering if it was way out of line.

Thanks for the comments and thoughts on this one guys.

Maybe I'm all wet it is hard to say with so few of them available. I looked for a 65 or early 66 block when I owned my 66 Hemi Coronet and I couldn't find an uncracked one for what I thought was a reasonable price (meaning not that much more than a then available World block).
