Drive In Cars

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie here  but am familiar with most of you from other sites.  I've been looking at this Cuda for a while now but haven't pulled the trigger yet . Curious what you all thought was a fair deal. She's all matching metal, build sheet, fender tag,340,4speed, but has color change from yellow w/ billboards to black w/billboards. Looks like no power steering. I'll try to attach the dusty photo's lol.  I was thinking 40 to 45k would be a good deal.  What do you think? I also want the black to add to my Drive-In car collection, just peel the billboards and bam "Phantasm" car.  I have not seen in person, but have stayed in contact with the owner for a year now.

Thanks,

Bill

I think $40K-$45K is in the right ballpark :alan2cents: . If it's is numbers matching and documented it deserves to be restored back to original.....if not, then your plans for it are quite suitable
I've taught you everything you know....but I haven't taught you everything I know....

That seems high to me for a car that has a colour change, maybe I'm out of touch though. Where I live a colour change is an automatic $20k deduction.

Cuda Cody

Welcome @Drive In Cars    :welcome:  Thanks for sharing photos of the Cuda that you are looking at.  Pretty neat car.  A real BS 1971 4 Speed cuda with factory billboards is so cool.  Highly desirable car and I would put the value of that car (if all restored to original) right in the $60k to $65 range.  In the condition it is I think a fair value would be right about $35k to $40K range.

How about some pics of the drive in?  No pressure, I am interested though.

Drive In Cars

Thank you everyone,

Here are some photo's of the two drive-ins and cars. Trying to find a decent "Phantasm" clone has been the most difficult of all my searching, but I have been patient.  I've missed a few by minutes.

Hi Allen,

Yes she is all matching numbers. I'm going to hook up the trailer and have a look very soon.  The owner told me he was thinking 50k for a unmolested (other than color change) 71 was fair. He was originally asking 59k.  I wish I had the original ad with the car all polished up, she looked nice  The car is 5 hours away and I've been down the road of "She looked better in the pictures" a time or two, mostly with women though  :o.

Great cars.   :clapping:  Pretty freaking neat that there are still Drive-Ins out there.  What a great feeling that must be to sit in a classic car at a Drive-In.

Yes it is a great feeling Cody. Though I didn't like paying for the new digital transition,  it is kinda cool being able to just slap in a old car chase dvd and relive the past  :)

Very sad how the numbers have dropped.
In the 70's cable tv, 80's video's, 90's internet and now no more film. Many could not afford the 70k plus for a big digital Drive-In projector. It sucked I had to buy 3 for my 2 locations. I was on the fence and almost slapped for sale signs on them.  My kids are the reason I upgraded and stayed open. It's a tougher world to survive in, though this business has it's ups and downs it will keep them with food on there table when I leave it to them. A sad fact, in the 50's the US had 5000 drive-ins.   Sadly we are down to just over 300, but there are a few new builds going up. As a matter of fact my 2 screen Ozoner 29 was built by me in 2002 and opened in 2003. My other location El-Rancho was a 1951 build, NO I did not build that one LOL :)

Thanks for sharing the pics and the stories and info on drive ins.  I loved going to the drive in during high school.  Even though we mainly just hung out and fell asleep during the second movie.  There are two here in SoCal, but they are a ways from my place.  I hope you can keep the business going.  Good luck on the 71.  Keep us posted.
