On a 1971 Hemicuda what style power steering pump did they use ? A federal pump, or a Saginaw pump ?

I believe 1971's had the Federal pump.

No Saginaw on a Hemi, because of belt spacing I suspect. Belts were forward to clear the right hand cylinder head and that changed the complete belt/pulley deal on a Hemi compared to a wedge.

Yes, I think so Alan. That pump does not have the Hemi specific pulley but that's okay, as the Hemi engine has a 440 damper on it and it should match up. Most likely that will all work with 440 pulleys, just will have to watch the stud on the alternator because with all this lined up it will be very close to the psgr side head. You might have to shorten the alternator stud a touch to make it clear.
It can be a head scratcher getting these setups to work without just Visa-carding all new repro parts.

The motor is at FHO, with my luck, I'll buy this pump and Tim will swap out the balancer for the correct one  :headbang:

With a 3:54 axle ratio, would it have a cooler ? Are those hard to find ?

yes,  :iagree: that's the pump you would need to use & that pulley with the thinner balancer

yes, a 3.54 car should have the cooler - it's the same one used on the T/A & AAR cars - Glenray used to reproduce it, I don't know if they plan any more  ??

Thanks Dan, I know it's not 100% correct, but it's only a clone of a 71 Hemicuda....won't matter if a few molecules are off  :haha:

Now to find a cooler

Good luck finding a correct PS hose for the Federal though. I've been looking for 3 years now
