7E-Bodies

New mystery. More than likely shade tree antics. This dent in the K member appears to be intentionally done, perhaps to prevent a lower radiator hose rub. I'm currently restoring said K member, noticed the dent, and was test fitting it prior to blasting and painting it properly (unlike previous project owner). I can make repairs to the area, no problem, but on the dry fit with the unrestored radiator in place, this dent's purpose became somewhat obvious. Any help with solving this mystery would be appreciated.
(77 stamped coin, appears original K member)

@6bblgt wow. That's surprising! I'd have sworn that was a 5# hammer strike. Thank you immensely. Must be for hose rub elimination then?

I always thought it was like that for taking the Oil Filter out a little bit less cumbersome.

Looks almost like an after thought on the assembly line.

Maybe additional clearance for lower radiator hose?
