I'm familiar with the horrible looking UFO wheel covers for the 71s but is this style cover also an option for 1971?

70 Challenger Lover

No one knows? I'd like to get a set for my 71 Barracuda convertible for shows and stuff but I'm not mentally ready to buy the hideous UFO ones.

RUNCHARGER

I think they are but perhaps 70 only. Sorry, not sure.

Everywhere I check shows these as 70-72 but that could just be bad information repeated over and over until it becomes true. I figured someone on the forum would know with absolute certainty.

Well according to the source where I got it this photo was a 72 factory promotional photo..

That's good enough for me! Technically, my 71 convertible came with the UFO covers but I just can't see putting those on. I like the 70-72 covers though and they are dirt cheap so I could see having a set to put on once in a while for a different appearance. No one runs wheel covers on e bodies (other than poverty caps) so this should provide a nice complimentary look for the car.

I also found these original style tires which would really bring back the totally original look. They are a bit taller than I'd like at 27.1" but I do like the thin double white stripes.

Plymouth must have received a bunch of unfavorable reviews on the W11 "DELUXE WHEEL COVER" for '71 that they brought the 1970 design back for 1972 (& modified it for '73-'74)

a broadcast sheet will show the last 2-digits of the part number for the "DELUXE WHEEL COVER" - all the '71 sheets I looked at with W11 show 01

:alan2cents: the books, guides & other references should show 1970 & 1972 for the 2944432 wheel cover VS. 1970-1972

Well that sucks. Was hoping the cover I liked was 70-72 rather than 70 and 72. Considering how you almost never see a barracuda with full wheel covers, I thInk I may just run the 70&72 cover and see if anyone ever notices. I wanted the cars wheels to stand out from the crowd but the 71 cover is just plain unacceptable.

if the '71 W11 wheel covers are unacceptable  I'd run the W15 "wire wheel covers"  :dunno:

1971 Plymouth E-body wheel treatment 96.7% of the 18,690 (Barracudas / Gran Coupes / 'cudas) accounted for:

hub caps STANDARD 13.3% (~ 2,403 cars) 14" & 15"
W11 "deluxe wheel covers" OPTIONAL 40.6% (~ 7,344 cars) 14" $25.15
W12 "trim rings & hub caps" OPTIONAL 1.5% (~ 263 cars) 14" & 15" $25.15
W15 "wire wheel covers" OPTIONAL 3.8% (~ 681 cars) 14" $64.55
W21 "RALLYE wheels" OPTIONAL 28.7% (~ 5,191 cars) 14" & 15" $54.25
W23 "ROAD wheels" OPTIONAL 12.1% (~ 2,195 cars) 14" $83.30

or maybe you just need to "embrace" all the "NEW" styling features of the '71 Barracuda :woohoo:
someone at Plymouth must have loved the "UFO" style wheel treatment - here is what was available on the Fury for 1971

Yikes. I actually like the look of the dog dish caps but they are so common now. I'll just go with the 1970 hubcaps and see if anyone notices.

RUNCHARGER

That's what I would do, or the wire covers, they looked okay as well.

Those 71 covers are so odd looking and so scarcely seen these days that I'd wager a lot of Mopar people would not even recognize them as being correct on that car. Since they don't even say Plymouth, I could see some thinking they are aftermarket.
