Hi all,

Any suggestions on repairing this ?   is it scrap ?  its a 390 rim so has/had some value.

I thought about drilling out the other pilot holes and using those and then weld fill the old sloppy holes ?

If doing yourself it might be worth a try.  If you are paying someone, I doubt it can be done economically.  If I had to do it, I would weld up those that needed it using a copper backing plate and TIG.   TIG will be softer and easier on the mill tooling. Then setup on a rotary table in the mill and recut the bolt seats.  You may need to grind the cutting tool if it isn't a common angle.  If the mill setup was good and there wasn't a bunch of extra weld material, it should be in balance.  Either way I think I would take it to a shop and see how much out of balance it was and have them add weights or weld to get close to zero if it is off a bunch.

I like your idea of using the other holes

Resto Rick repaired a 450 rim of mine with similar damage to the lug holes.  Turned out great and was reasonably priced.  The shipping costs are the only bummer.

RUNCHARGER

Find an early 14 inch rally rim (make sure the slots are the same design). Cut them both out at the welds carefully (sacrifice the 14 inch hoop and the 390 center of course) and weld the new center into the 390 hoop. You need to be a quality welder and have a dial indicator or let a machine shop do it.

Good options !

Floyd, what did resto rick charge ?    I have this one with holes and another that is not running true (curb damage).

what is a fair price for 390s now days if I tried to replace versus fixing ?

Thanks

He did all 5 for $60.  But shipping there and back was more than the repair.  I'll post a pic of the repair later today.

MoparLeo

I learned over 30years ago that the Mopar rally wheels, whether they were 14" or 15" used the exact same center. The outer determined whether it was a 14" or 15".
Made my own 15 X 7" before they were repro-d by using the 15" outers from 15 X 7 Chevy Blazer rims and cutting the centers from 14" Rallys.
Simple, cheap. Many 14" rims still available cheap. Cut the centers out
