Hey guys,

I'm considering new 17" wheels for my 71 Challenger.  I really like the U111 Ramblers from U.S. Mags. BTW - everything is stock on my car and it is plum crazy like in the pic.

Couple of questions:

1. I've always used 15" wheels and tires with the standard offset and backspacing.  With these 17" wheels what size do I get so I don't rub and they don't stick out.  Everything is stock on my car.

2. My car now has 255 and 235 15" rubber on it.  I like a little more rubber on my wheels not the thin rubber that people are installing today.  Based on that what do you think I should go with in sizing again so I don't have rubbing issues?  I would rather be safe than sorry.  Thanks

Found these on Ebay.

They seem to be the correct size.  Can you confirm and if so what tires?

Use this tool to figure out height changes:

Unless you're going to increase the overall diameter a LOT, you won't rub going to 17s on height alone.

WIDTH is most likely what will cause you to rub.  WIDTH and Offset/backspacing.

If I remember right I think Dan has those on his beautiful Cuda? Maybe he can give you some tips?

edit: yep reply #17  https://forum.e-bodies.org/wheels-tires-brakes-suspension-and-steering/12/e-body-tire-sizes-what-fits-whats-too-big-what-looks-good/4016/15

Yep, those are mine but they 18".  Hankook Ventus V12 245/45/18 and 275/40/18 with US Mag U111 Rambler textured gunmetal grey 18x8 and 18x9.5.  The stock spring location gives abut 3/4" room, fits inside the rear quarters with no rolled lips.  Fronts also fit perfect, no rolled lips, not rubbing on frame.

The US Mag wheels do not offer a choice on bs, so what ever is listed is what you get. However they are quality made, look good and fraction of the cost some wheels like Forgeline. http://us-mags.com/rambler-u111-w-6133.htm

You may want to check out place like www.performanceplustire.com. They offer wheel/tire packages and will deliver them mounted and balanced to your door for less than buying tires and wheels separate or at a local chain store.

I have the same as Dan.  Thanks Dan aka Mopar 303.

I tried putting some photos up but I'm in the middle of nowhere here and it took forever and then my phone gave up.

Let Dan or I know if you want photos but we only have 18s and cudas.

Ok so I'm hooked on these.  Apparently they only come in the same size.  Will these fit my stock 71 Challenger ok?

What size tires should I consider that won't rub?  I don't want anythig too thin I like a litte more meat.

What suggestions do you all have?  Thanks

Chryco Psycho

I know a 295 wide will fit bare if the diff is centered perfectly but with a 17" rim you have a lot less sidewall bulge so 295 should be fine

I would go with Goodys set up - 17x7 255/50/17 and if you want 17x8 rears go with 295/50/17 which is close to his 295/45/18. This will also give you 1.5" stagger.
