Question for the experts....My fender tag on my 71 383 Cuda automatic shows the A36 axle package.  Broadcast sheet confirms this as well.  The leaf springs on the car are part number 3400044 (heavy duty). From what I understand these are standard for a 383 Cuda.  Broadcast sheet confirms the 044 springs are original to the car.  However, I thought that when an E body got an optional axle package such as the A36 3:55 axle, the leaf springs were upgraded to Extra heavy Duty 3400034 springs like on a 440 or Hemi car?  Could this be a factory screw up or am I miss informed?

The book I have says "Rallye suspension" I'm not sure that's the same as "Hemi suspension"  :dunno:

If your BC sheet has S13 that's HD "rallye" suspension.
If it has S15 it is the XHD "Hemi" suspension.

for 1970 axle package 340 & 383 cars had S15
for 1971 axle package 340 & 383 cars had S13

must've learned something from the "TRANS AM" program  :notsure:

Ahhhh....thanks for the info.  So there WAS a difference between 70 & 71.

In addition- in a bulletin dated September 14, 1970 the S15 suspension was cancelled- also noted that 440 and Hemi cars would now be equipped with S13

I don't think the S15 was canceled, maybe it was NO longer an orderable OPTION - but HEMI (& 440) cars still has them as part of the engine upgrade - here's a late-May '71 hemicuda  :takealook:

I don't have a copy of the 1971 Coding Guide so wasn't sure on the exact context of the bulletin if it was referring to axle packages, separate option , or standard equipment
