How big tires will fit. (I have searched the forum without any answers)

I am thinking of mini tubbing my car and moving yhe leaf springs and of course replace the rear axle with a Dana 60.
But do anybody know how big tires that will fit on a 1971 BarraCuda with minitubbing and moving the leafspring inwards.

Why a 10" rim? If you are going to tub it , those tires work far better on a 12 or 13" rim. How much power you pushing ?

, of course I can modify them but if possible I would like to keep them stock.
The power will be on the positive side of 700 bhp.

I would talk to US Car Tool. They have been selling mini tub kits for years and should be able to help you with what will fit and what offset you will need.  If they can't, I would be a bit concerned.  The offset is going to be important to center the wheel in the available space.   You need to make sure the wheels you have picked are compatible with the space available and the rear end width.  I would be ordering wheels last, you may need custom offsets.

You can fit a tire that is 305-315 wide in the stock wheel wells with a simple bolt  in 1" spring relocation and careful selection of wheel backspace. 

The kit you reference doesn't say how far it relocates the springs, at least that I saw. Cutting and modifying wells and the associated relocation that is likely 3+" will take a fair amount of work.

With a 1" relocation it will be no trouble to fit a 10" width rim with a 12-13" wide tire that is 28" tall.  The Mickey Thompson SR 28x12x15 comes to mind.

If you really feel the need to cut up your Cuda cause a 13" wide tire just isn't big enough....  Here's the wheels that would have been used back in the 80's....

On mine challenger 70 I used Prostar wheels 15x10,Mikey thompson 30"x12.5 ET.Backspacing on wheels was 6.25"
Did use super stock leaf spring 3600Lbs.
Front leaf pocket was moved inboard so it sat only on 2 stud and welded to frame,rear hanger was fabricated to match front hanger.
Rear end was Chrysler 9 1/4 from 70-71 Chrysler fury,with Moser axle and Mopar 8 3/4 axle end.
This was a 10sec 1/4 mile car

Is your car a real 71 Cuda or a clone ? I wouldn't think about cutting up an original 71 Cuda.

It is a 1971 Barracuda so yes, it is a clone.

My car has its original rear wheel wells and I'm using a 10.5" wheel.
Just FYI.


If you want to go to the work of tubbing, I would go bigger than a 10" wheel.
