We are converting our car from an automatic to a manual transmission.  We are rebuilding the steering column now.  What is the function of the lockout tube in a car with a manual transmission?
Thanks

For  a reverse lock out, Controlled by linkage's. With it operational the transmission had to be in reverse to remove the key and lock the steering wheel.  :alan2cents:

Has anyone bypassed / disabled the reverse lockout feature with the 4 speed manual?  Having to put it in reverse to remove the key seems like a pain in the rear to me.

Everybody tosses the lock-out linkage even back in the day

How do I keep the lockout in the right place it the linkage is removed?

Typically you'll have no issue with it moving, and if it does, it's a simple fix while sitting behind the wheel....just turn the collar by hand until it's lined up again so you can remove the key... :bigthumb:
