avatar_Bullitt- Yep, you got it. As odd as it seems to me, the pedal assemblies are obviously different. So that's why I am going to have to stick with the original which is the non-intermediate system. Thanks for the picture. That answered all the questions.

But all cleaned up with new cables the earlier setup should work well enough. On a 70 make sure the lever mechanism has both springs intact and that the little nylon stop bushing at the handle is in good shape so that everything works as it should, and check for any bent parts. Sometimes this little stop tab breaks off and needs to be repaired. I went with stainless cables from Fine Lines for my 70.

avatar_EV2RTSE  Can you give me more info on the two springs you mention here. I thought my pedal was good, but now I'm thinking I have a spring problem.
It does not want to stay fully up against the stop.

avatar_340Challman The one spring is visible in post #7 for the release handle - the other is not so easily seen, it's inside the mechanism and enables the ratchet to work; when you step on the e-brake pedal you should hear a pronounced click-click-click-click, if not then this spring is most likely broken. I'm thinking though that the problem you're describing may relate more to something further down the line, either with the cable itself or the springs at the shoes possibly?
