Looking for some advice, Does any one have recommendations for a  quality new or rebuilt saginaw pump for a 1970 challenger 383? I was going to attempt to rebuild mine but the reservoir case is dented up and out of round. Thank you

JonH

Well since no one answered. Rebuild is easy, just a few seals. As for the reservoir a simple google shows a nos one on eBay. I resealed mine a few years ago as well shimming the pressure valve. Very easy and satisfying.

are big and small block pumps the same?

I agree rebuild is easy, fixing the dents may not be.

Yes the pumps themselves are the same but the brackets and pulley are different between small block & big block.

A year or two ago I ordered a Saginaw from Rock Auto, the picture showed it to be the original thermometer shaped reservoir, but what I got was the eggplant shaped one so I sent it back. Looking around online I'm still seeing lots of listings for pumps with the thermometer shaped reservoir, maybe some are still out there in the system? Might be worth ordering one from your local auto parts store and see what shows up, easier to return that way if turns out to be the wrong one.

I believe I do have an extra 70 Saginaw off of a 318 Challenger somewhere if you're not having any luck finding one.
