Hi,

Car was without use some 5 years, then in the shop 8 months for paint, engine and brake issues.

Drove it yesterday,   steering felt a bit strange, like suddenly hard to turn.
Once back and parking steering was harder than usual and noticed that the turning lights handle was moving in the direction of the S. Wheel and was stuck up, like selecting right turn.
Tried putting it neutral but was only able to do so after returning the steering to be centered wheels.

What can this be and how to resolve it?

Wbrgds.

Bullitt-

I'm wondering if some hardware that holds the steering column to the dash has been left off or at least very loose....

Good idea,    mechanic says que did not touch anything related to the steering while removing and installing the brake booster.
St.Wheel looks firm in its original place.

Lifted the front of the car to move the SW,  its sure binding to the turn signal handle and something like white paper towel smashed pieces come out from a gap in the housing between the the steering wheel and the turning lights handle.
Does not feel like plastic, more as paper as mentioned.   What can that be?
Sprayed W-40 inside through the turning light handle opening.  Binding decreased some 80%

Have you taken the steering wheel/can off and looked at the switch?  Paper bits coming out of the column is definitely not normal.

No idea how to start taking it off.

Excellent video!
Many thanks.

From what I see there is a white rubber part in there close to the turning signal handle.
That may be the one being grinded.

As said we lifted the front of the car and turned that wheel 20 times after spraying W40 in there,  got loose and pretty much stopped spitting white material.

Think I will plan to disassemble and check after taking the car out of the shop.

Thanks again for the video!!

No kidding,  maybe a nice girl left me her ph number hidden in there. :)

What kind of lubricant goes in the manual steering gear?

The one at the end of the shaft coming from the steering wheel.
